I hope ya’ll paid attention in Sunday school cuz I’m about to test your knowledge of the Good Book. I’ll name the Bible passage, you name the book of the Bible that it can be found. You do not need to give the chapter and verse (unless you want to show off).

Answers are due by Monday at 5 PM Eastern.

1. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2. Jesus wept.
3. To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.
4. Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee.
5. And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
6. Give us this day our daily bread.
7. How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
8. If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.
9. Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
10. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
11. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
12. Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
13. There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
14. I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet.
15. Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

BONUS
If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

Brother Nelly, I am personally putting you in charge of ensuring that any heathens out there who happen to miss any parts of this QoD send in a check to my ministry in the amount of $10,000 multiplied by however many parts in which they show they have failed to learn the word of God! Any players who fail to comply with the Lord's demands for cash will be getting paid a visit by either a horde of locusts or the guy who dresses up in my university's silly mascot uniform....
Please make all checks payable to Oral B Roberts Ministries

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

8. If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. = Something Old Testamenty, after the Pentateuch

9. Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. = one of Paul's Epistles, not sure which one.

15. Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength. = Old Testament, one of the Prophets, no idea which one, though

BONUS
If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. = Daniel (the 13th Century Play of Daniel has a very dramatic setting of this; school boys then-- it was composed by students at the Beauvais Cathedral-- really knew their stuff; I love that piece)
Edited just to put it in spoiler form, which I keep forgetting to do. I'm old. So sue me.

Sigh. I only know #3 as coming from Ecclesiastes. And that's only because of Pete Seeger by way of The Byrds.

I know most of the quotes, just don't know the books they came from. I will blanket guess Matthew for #'s 2, 6, 7, 9 and 11.

If Father Beck were still around, this performance would earn me at least 50 Hail Marys.

One of my best friends is a priest. I wonder how well he'd do on this?

I hope ya’ll paid attention in Sunday school cuz I’m about to test your knowledge of the Good Book. I’ll name the Bible passage, you name the book of the Bible that it can be found. You do not need to give the chapter and verse (unless you want to show off).

Answers are due by Monday at 5 PM Eastern.
Pretty sure I could have done without the obligatory bible category. I gave up on Sunday school as soon as I was old enough (and brave enough...) to tell my mother I wasn't going and could get away with it.

I think I was about 37...

Mr. Nelly, I wish to say that I would not have obligated you in any way to include this category. I have tried to read this Book. Really, I have. I have no problem with the words, but I have a problem with the pages. Because the Book is printed on thin paper, and I have no thumbs, I have a terrible time trying to turn the pages. (I'm not using that thumb thing as an excuse nor to imply that I'm disabled. In fact, I simply one of those differently abled ones you hear about from time to time, and some of my differing abilities are rather amazing, if you think about it, but I don't want to brag.) So anyway, I tried to turn the pages with my nose, but that didn't work so well, so then I used my tongue. After I got all the way to the end, I couldn't understand why some of the best stories had no endings until I figured out that the pages were sticking together in clumps. The good stories don't taste any better than the long lists of people's relatives, either. All I can do is all I can do. Some of my answers are guesses.
