There are lots of great quotes out there.

i will tell you what my favorite "signature line" quote is on this Bored.

It is AD's "Again."

If you want to talk about an example of coaching at its highest level, it was Herb Brooks in 1979-80.

I often wonder if my high school boys watched that movie later in life and cursed that freakin' whistle.

I'll second Sirge's signature:

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. - Gandalf

A rare movie quote which can stand with the best in literature, although that might be because it IS originally literature. Anyone know if this line is lifted straight from JRRT? Ear?

The following is what I have hanging by my desk. I decided early on that child-rearing books were a crock and made this my guide:
I just want him to stay with me until I can be sure he won't turn into Norman Nothing. I want to be sure he'll know when he's chickening out on himself. I want him to get to know exactly the special thing he is or else he won't notice it when it starts to go. I want him to stay awake and know who the phonies are, I want him to know how to holler and put up an argument, I want a little guts to show before I can let him go. I want to be sure he sees all the wild possibilities. I want him to know it's worth all the trouble just to give the world a little goosing when you get the chance. And I want him to know the subtle, sneaky, important reason why he was born a human being and not a chair. --Herb Gardner

If God didn't want us to have zoos He would have given chimps really big wookuses.

My all time favorite, of course:

Oh yeah? Bite me.

(No, not THAT AJ!)
You never know, I might have said that.

I'm torn here on my favorite.

"No matter where you go, there you are" Buckaroo Bonzai

or

"Laugh while you can, monkey boy" Lord John Whorfin (while possessing the body of Dr. Emilio Lizardo)

It's one of those two but I can't decide.
No matter where you go, there you are.

oh my!

After reading everyone's selections, I feel so shallow - although I do believe that "It all starts with the point guard" is a valid philosophy.

So, a favorite from Thoreau, "There is no remedy for love but to love more."

Yes, it comes directly from the book. Chapter 2, "The Shadow of the Past", in "The Fellowship of the Ring".
"Elen sila lumenn omentielvo...A star shines on the hour of our meeting."

"Never give up, never surrender."

I've always been partial to:

"Anyone who is willing to do what it takes to become the president, shouldn't be allowed the job."

Your quote is from one of my favorite movies! A Thousand Clowns. I've watched it many times. Great script and great acting. Thanks for reminding me.
It is not true that we have only one life to live; if we can read, we can live as many lives as we wish. -S.I. Hayakawa

A picture is worth a thousand words.
- probably not really an ancient Chinese proverb

An aerial is worth a thousand pictures.

Anything Yogi Berra said or allegedly said.

"Some men see things as they are and say why, I dream of things that never were and say why not".

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

"and the sign said the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls".

"Hey... Dad? You wanna have a catch?" (from "Field of Dreams"). I tear up every time at this.
