I read this in an article this morning:
In the court papers, an Emperors Club employee was quoted as telling Kristen that Client 9 — Spitzer, according to investigators — "would ask you to do things that ... you might not think were safe," and Kristen responded by saying: "I have a way of dealing with that. ... I'd be, like, listen, dude, you really want the sex?"

A law enforcement official said Tuesday the discussion had to do with Spitzer's preference not to wear a condom and the call-girl's insistence that he use one.
If I were his wife, this would piss me off. It's bad enough that he's screwing around, but to not wear a condom and risk his wife's health is horrible.

Reports this morning say he's been using pros for at least ten years. I'm sure at least some complied with his request.

David Paterson, Lieutenant Governor of New York (at least for the next couple of hours) was in the NY State legislature for about 20 years, and was likely to be minority leader of the state assembly when Spitzer picked him as running mate. People were surprised he took the job, because being lt gov has a lot less power than a leadership spot in the assembly.

Other politicians with big ambitions have fallen in sex scandals. In neighboring New Jersey, Democratic Gov. James McGreevey, a husband and father of two children, resigned in 2004 after announcing "I am a gay American" and admitting to an affair with a man. In 1992, New York Chief Judge Sol Wachtler — often mentioned for a U.S. Supreme Court nomination — resigned after he was accused of threatening to kidnap the daughter of a former mistress. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison.
If you are counting Wachtler as a Democrat, I don't know whether that is correct or not. How do you know? Wikipedia doesn't say. I've never heard of the guy, except that he's apparently the original source of the quote that a grand jury can indict a ham sandwich.

And if you are counting USA Today's mention of Bill Clinton without identifying his party, I think most readers know he's a Democrat.

I'm surprised to see you slinging untrue accusations just like some of the board's more predictably biased partisans. The trouble with your past thoughtful and erudite posts is that I've come to hold you to a higher standard.


Well. I have to retract my apology for having (I thought) misposted something.

It really bothered me that I could have been THAT wrong in my recollection of what the USA Today article said, and today I went back to the library, pulled out yesterday's issue, and re-read the article... and I found that, in fact, there is NO MENTION of McGreevey's political affiliation, and the only politico whose political affiliation is identified is, in fact, Larry 'Paper Dropper' Craig (there is a reference to something called the Democratic Governors' Association, from whose comments-- 'It's too soon to judge'-- you can conclude that Spitzer must be a Democrat).

I suspect that USA Today edited the story for the online edition to add the other political affiliations after the print version hit the stands (or, at least, hit my library). Perhaps they made this (and possibly other) changes in response to my earlier post...

But bottom line, I actually did NOT misquote or misdescribe (or misremember) the USA Today article, the print version of which does not, in fact, identify the party affiliation of the misbehaving Democrats but does identify the affiliation of the misbehaving Republican.

It would be troubling indeed to lose the respect of one of my favorite Millionaires...

Glad to hear it. And I gladly withdraw any implication that your credibility was diminished. USA Today comes out looking bad on this deal, since one can no longer quote them without annotating what time and place you read it, in case it changes over time. That's one of the reasons why I hate the trend of director's cuts of movies, Official Harry Potter Encyclopedias that include material that wasn't in the books, etc. There's no common frame of reference if everything is always subject to being changed after people experience it the first time.

I'm still hoping to see a new director's cut of your WWTBAM episode, in which you confidently say, "Jethro Tull, final answer."
