Transcript 11/02/2012 - Stephen Mislich (check2012)

#1 Post by BBTranscriptTeam » Sun Nov 04, 2012 7:40 pm

Stephen Mislich (BB handle check2012)
Altamont, IL
college senior majoring in math and computer science

Stephen hopes one day to work for NASA. He's also a big chess player and that led him to how he prepared for the show. Stephen explains that before a test in school or a "Millionaire" audition he tries to drink a lot of orange juice and eat dark chocolate because he's heard that they help get the brain start going and the mind active. It worked for the audition and he had a lot before coming out on stage. Meredith asks if he'll be there for the whole game or if he'll have to leave. Stephen replies, "We'll see."

Another WWOQ, waiting in ambush for anyone who manages to reach "Classic Millionaire". Why would anyone know this?

According to this article in the Toronto Sun, Charlie mentioned the patent on TV.
Debuting the blueprints for the prototype on U.S. late night show Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday (19Jul12), Sheen said, "I just wanted to make something better than I used every day.

"I actually took this to Chapstick and they said, 'Look, if you can make this for seven cents, we'll buy them - but I couldn't get it down to below seven-and-a-quarter and so they passed."

But Sheen hasn't tossed the prototype he patented away: "I bring it out at parties."
Wow! One late-night passing reference to a patent that was a commercial failure.

The US Patent Office has a "news" page about this patent, with a link to download the entire patent application, if you like. Incidentally, I wonder how many of the technical details were worked out by Charlie and how many by his "clever pal," Mr. Thomason?

You might be better off, check, working for SpaceX or one of the private firms.

I thought it might have been Angola, considering that there was a Cuban presence there during the 60s. But since that wasn't a choice, the answer had to be Congo.

Gutsy move, check. Sorry it didn't work out. And unfortunately the "second strong answer" rule on ATA wouldn't have helped, either. You played well.

I don't watch the show, so I can only go by what is said here in the transcripts, but I'm curious as to whether check's decision to go for this question was actually influenced by the ATA, or was just a calculated gamble. I actually read this transcript last night while waiting to see if anyone would show up in chat, and when I got to this question and saw the ATA (Yeah, I know, you got it so you might as well use it), I couldn't help to think to myself this has to be one of the awfulest questions ever thrown to the audience (even more so than the glowing potato). Anyone who is clueless is gonna vote for condom due to the subject of the question. Anyone who is going to seriously try to reason it out is going to vote for breath mint, which is the most sensible choice. I was not the least bit surprised to see both spike in the results.... and neither was trustworthy at all. Nothing short of a large spike for either Chapstick or Cologne would have swayed me on this one.

Even during my MBFFB® days of always reading the transcripts, I don't think I've ever come across a question more wickedly written to render the audience lifeline useless....

I watch Jimmy Kimmel and I saw that episode and remember being disappointed that is was so boring compared to his previous visit when he was more manic and kissed Jimmy when he entered. I even remember one of my boys walking into the room while I was watching, only I forget which one. I completely forgot the Chapstick part, even though they had the patent application with the diagrams and all. I wouldn't have gotten it either.

Doesn't Chapstick already come in a hand-held apparatus that dispenses it? Maybe Charlie uses it on herpes sores.
