March 10 QoD -- "Political Theater"

#1 Post by NellyLunatic1980 » Mon Mar 10, 2008 3:50 am

Rules: viewtopic.php?p=40443#40443

Today is the start of Week 2, so the points are going up. Each correct answer is now worth 2 points, with bonus questions worth 10 points.

Republicans are consistently accusing Democrats of “playing political theater”... so if it’s political theater they want, it’s political theater they will get. Below is a list of films that center around or feature U.S. presidents of fact and fiction. For each, name the actor or actress who played the president.

Answers are due by Tuesday at 5 PM Eastern.

1. “Independence Day” (1996)
2. “Deep Impact” (1998)
3. “Canadian Bacon” (1995)
4. “Bicentennial Man” (1999)

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
