Superbad

#1 Post by danielh41 » Fri Mar 07, 2008 6:11 am

My wife and I watched Superbad last night, and I almost wet myself while laughing so hard. My wife didn't think it was as funny as I did. So what does that say about me?

That you can get around vulgar language better than your wife can. It's a hilarious movie, and I'm sure that young people talk that way now, but I couldn't get past. The language diminished my enjoyment of the movie.

Similar to the reaction I have when there's really bad science in a movie which purports to be realistic.
For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled. -- Richard Feynman

It says you are a man and your wife is not.

I just checked Rottentomatoes.com, and Superbad got a whopping 87 percent on the Tomatometer. So I wasn't the only one who thought it was hilarious. Just call me McLovin...

That was the chosen entertainment during the Knucklehead Reunion, and my husband despised it. I have yet to see it.

He liked Borat while I did not. We both like Jackass. I love Bad Santa.

So, it's not the tastelessness, it's whether or not it's tastefully done?

I don't mind if the joke's on you. If it's on someone else, like in Borat, it's not so funny to me.

So now I'll be Closet Fogey...

The lottery site where I check results has a bored with an administrator who lets you have a title. I saw one that reminded me of you:

Prince of Insufficient Light

Just change it to Sunlight, and it's you! :P

Jeff and I had the same experience when we saw the movie.

I tend to agree with you.

But then again, Borat was hilarious in a guilty, disgusting way.

I thought we were going to wake the kids during the wrestling scene.

I haven't seen Superbad, but have seen Borat. Borat got such rave reviews, from my kids and everybody else, I expected to be having hernias laughing.

I was totally bored, not grossed out, just bored with it. It wasn't funny. It wasn't particularly rude or irreverent or whatever. Or maybe it's that I'm so sick that he didn't do it appropriately perversely enough? I dunno. It just bored me. And that's not good. If it doesn't make me laugh it's worthless. Unless it's not supposed to be a comedy. Maybe it was an actual real documentary in disguise.

Niice.
Well, then

Jeff and I took Maddie to see Borat with the conditions that she never tell her sister and that when I deem it appropriate, she covered her eyes and look away. I did not want her to see the nude wrestling scene.

We all thought that it was hilarious.

I thought that Borat was better than Superbad.

Uh, what does it say that my husband and I watched Superbad last night and we both thought it was hilarious.

I'm guessing that it probably means that I have more vulgar tastes than some.

I sort of saw it as an updated Fast Times. Just the awkwardness of teenagers trying to figure things out and be cool.
