ANSWERS/POINTS LS WACKY WEDNESDAY March 5
Looks like today's wackiness involves novelty tunes! Luckily for me (and you), it looks like I chose legitimate songs by specific artists.
Quick note on the bonus instrumentals: Unless specifically stated, you need the song and the artist. And by specifically stated, I'll actually say "You only need the song/artist today". It's not an all or nothing though, you'll still get 5 points if you only get one or the other. It's tough to write a question with "this" and "their" and "the" without being way too confusing grammatically and having it still make sense.
Today's game was originally posted August 7, 2002. I'm going to keep putting that in every day, so I can get the right day for the original scores. We must keep board history buffs happy because they live for that crap. Right?
1. Yeah man, you know people from outer space,
people from outer space they come up to me.
They don't look like Doctor Spock.
They don't look like Klingons,
all that Star Trek jive.
2. And then he grabbed her (and then…)
He tied her up (and then….)
He turned on the bandsaw
(and then…. and then…..!)
3. Well, he swung from the tree and he lit on the ground
He started to rock really rockin' around
It was a crazy ditty with a swinging tune
Sing a bop bop a boopa lopa lum bam boom
4. Now she is afraid to come out of the water
And I wonder what she's gonna do
Now she is afraid to come out of the water
And the poor little girl's turning blue
5. Say yes I'll be here when the mornin comes
I'll be right here and I ain't gonna run
I bought this house now you know I'm boss
Ain't no haint gonna run me off
6. She did her triple somersault and when she hit the ground
She winked at the audience and then she turned around
She had a picture of a cowboy tattooed on her spine
That said Phoenix, Arizona 1949
7. The back end looked kinda funny too
But we put it together and when we got through
Well, that's when we noticed
That we only had one tail fin
8. Now I've got a guy and his name is Dooley
He's my guy and I love him truly
He's not good lookin', heaven knows
But I'm wild about his crazy clothes
9. And with a swing of her hips she started to strip
To tremendous applause she took off her drawers
And with a lick of her lips she undid all the clips
Threw it all in the air, and everybody stared
10. My folks were always putting her down (down, down)
Because her laundry came back brown (brown, brown)
I don’t care if they think she’s bad
I fell in love cause she looked so sad
Bonus Instrumental: This band’s biggest hit song (#1 in 1958), it isn’t technically an instrumental, as it contains one word. It’s also one of the first songs I ever learned to play bass guitar on, which wasn’t too difficult, as it has a 2/2 beat and all of two chords. Ten additional points for the first person to submit a tape of themselves dancing the Pee Wee to it.
Bonus Bonus: One of the members of the group in #10 was also the singer for the Archies and the Cuff Links, before becoming a producer for Barry Manilow in the early 70’s. Who is he?
Super Bonus: This person also sang one of the biggest commercial jingles ever. Hint: Manilow used to play a portion of it in his concerts, don’t know if he still does. (I didn't have answers written down, but I'm pretty sure I wanted the name of the jingle song here.)

Yes!
I went to the Cards game that night against the Expos (Sorry, MACRAE), and they got clobbered for their 7th loss in a row.... a losing streak that started right after they traded for Scott Rolen the week before! That was also the morning I stubbed my little toe real badly, and was walking with a limp for a while after that. The toenail eventually fell off, and it still doesn't grow back right all this time later.....
But enough about me....

He tied her up (and then….)

ALONG CAME JONES/The Coasters
3. Well, he swung from the tree and he lit on the ground
He started to rock really rockin' around
It was a crazy ditty with a swinging tune
Sing a bop bop a boopa lopa lum bam boom
PURPLE PEOPLE EATER, Sheb Woolley

And I wonder what she's gonna do
Now she is afraid to come out of the water
And the poor little girl's turning blue
ITSY BITSY TEENY WEENY YELLOW POLKA DOT BIKINI, Brian Hyland

people from outer space they come up to me.
They don't look like Doctor Spock.
They don't look like Klingons,
all that Star Trek jive.
Elvis Is Everywhere - Mojo Nixon
There's a little bit of Elvis in everyone. Except one person. The evil opposite of Elvis. The anti-Elvis. Anti-Elvis got no Elvis in 'em. Michael J. Fox has no Elvis in him. Elvis is in Joan Rivers, but he's trying to get out.
2. And then he grabbed her (and then…)
He tied her up (and then….)
He turned on the bandsaw

Along Came Jones - The Coasters (we sang this in Glee Club)

Re: Lyrically Speaking WACKY WEDNESDAY March 5
No Marley today? Dude, you know that in order to EARN the cellar you have to play! PS Final Standings for the month will also include an average score, just for you!
ELVIS IS EVERYWHERE - MOJO NIXON with or without SKID ROPER
2. And then he grabbed her (and then…)
He tied her up (and then….)
He turned on the bandsaw
(and then…. and then…..!)
ALONG CAME JONES - RAY STEVENS or THE COASTERS
I always think of this as a Ray Stevens song even though the original was the Coasters, maybe because we had the Stevens album. Unlike most novelty songs, I think this one can musically stand on its own. The tune is almost like Yakkety Sax (I wonder if the Coasters had this before or after Yakkety Yak).
3. Well, he swung from the tree and he lit on the ground
He started to rock really rockin' around
It was a crazy ditty with a swinging tune
Sing a bop bop a boopa lopa lum bam boom
PURPLE PEOPLE EATER - SHEB WOOLEY
4. Now she is afraid to come out of the water
And I wonder what she's gonna do
Now she is afraid to come out of the water
And the poor little girl's turning blue
ITSY BITSY TEENY WEENY YELLOW POLKA DOT BIKINI - BRIAN HYLAND
5. Say yes I'll be here when the mornin comes
I'll be right here and I ain't gonna run
I bought this house now you know I'm boss
Ain't no haint gonna run me off
HAUNTED HOUSE - JUMPIN' GENE SIMMONS
As opposed to TONGUIN' GENE SIMMONS. Ha!
6. She did her triple somersault and when she hit the ground
She winked at the audience and then she turned around
She had a picture of a cowboy tattooed on her spine
That said Phoenix, Arizona 1949
LITTLE EGYPT - THE COASTERS
I had no idea Elvis did this, but since several people named him I'm going to figure he did without looking it up.
Melly, don't second guess yourself because somebody has already been used. I have no idea what I was thinking when I first did these. On some of them I have lyrics but no title, some have titles only, some have blanks. So I think some of the files I have are rough drafts and I changed them when I posted them. On this one, I think I used them both because they are two of my favourite "novelty" songs (when I was looking over the games I wondered why I didn't use my very favourite song, I found the answer when I saw it had been used in a later game. Ha!
7. The back end looked kinda funny too
But we put it together and when we got through
Well, that's when we noticed
That we only had one tail fin
ONE PIECE AT A TIME - JOHNNY CASH
When we were in Nashville years ago we had to go to Henderson for something. We passed by Johnny Cash's house and the OPAAT Cadillac was sitting out front! I still have pics of it.
8. Now I've got a guy and his name is Dooley
He's my guy and I love him truly
He's not good lookin', heaven knows
But I'm wild about his crazy clothes
PINK SHOELACES - DODIE STEVENS
9. And with a swing of her hips she started to strip
To tremendous applause she took off her drawers
And with a lick of her lips she undid all the clips
Threw it all in the air, and everybody stared
PATRICIA THE STRIPPER - CHRIS LE DOUX
Love this song, it should be much better known than it is (in general, not in this game). Has a great slide trombone. Chris de Burgh was the Lady in Red guy.
10. My folks were always putting her down (down, down)
Because her laundry came back brown (brown, brown)
I don’t care if they think she’s bad
I fell in love cause she looked so sad
LEADER OF THE LAUNDROMAT - THE DETERGENTS
I doubt I put this in specifically for lb, but it's funny that it's quite fitting 5 1/2 years later as we spend a lot of time discussing cleaning products.
TEQUILA - THE CHAMPS
Bonus Bonus: One of the members of the group in #10 was also the singer for the Archies and the Cuff Links, before becoming a producer for Barry Manilow in the early 70’s. Who is he?
RON DANTE
Super Bonus: This person also sang one of the biggest commercial jingles ever. Hint: Manilow used to play a portion of it in his concerts, don’t know if he still does. (I didn't have answers written down, but I'm pretty sure I wanted the name of the jingle song here.)

At least this time I know where I lost my 5 points from last time. I didn't know you wanted the song along with the band in the bonus, but I guess I figured that out last time....
The detergent song was just a coincidence. I didn't start having laundry discussions on the Bored until 2004....
