Week 256

Well, what one thing are you going to work on this week for your health and fitness?



Please get your February PCLT points in for February. I'm fixing to post them. And let's make this the best March ever. We can do it.








I'm going to workout this week. Frequently. And I'm going to make myself sore enough to use one of my birthday massage certificates. :)

You're gonna laugh, but this is a big step for me -- cutting out cafeteria cookies. The cafeteria here makes declicious sugar cookies with hand-mixed icing, and I love them, but they don't love me.

Workouts are going better -- I'm learning that doing weights two days in a row is a bad idea for me, even if I have a three or four day break from them in between. I'm trying to find resistance work I can do at home, so those nights when I don't make it to the gym, I can at least do a little workout at home. We have an exercise ball, so that's helping.

Actually try to "pick up" the pace this week. I can even start to think walking "outside" pretty soon---it got close to 60 on Saturday. I would say it will still be a couple of weeks prior to walking outside. My rule is I will not wear gloves to keep me hands warm if walking outside. When the temp is high enough to not wear gloves, I will be outside.

I will have to start back my portion control and better choices soon. I have slacked for too long.

Why?

Considering how long and cold the winters are in North Dakota, if you can be comfortable enjoying a walk with a pair of gloves, why stay cooped up?

We had a little freezing rain before sunrise, but it shot up to 55 in time for my lunchtime walk, so I didn't even need the winter coat. :)

And the geese are already flying north! Now, that, I'd say, is too soon. :wink:

Why ask a sensible question? :lol: Because that is my rule and I am sticking to it. :D

Couple of other things about walking outside in the winter. Not the greatest footing available to keep "the same tempo/rhythm/speed" and who wants to bundle up with a heavy coat and attempt to actually "sweat"? And one last thing, not a lot of fun to eventually have frozen snot around your mouth.

Time to stop the snackiness. Or at least swap for better snackies. I've been a little stressed out at work so I've been making friends with the vending machine.

I'd rather nibble than set things on fire, but I don't want to pick up a new bad habit to replace an old one.

I brought some triscuits and fruit from home to munch on at work. It beats the evil Kit Kat that taunts me from the vending machine. Lot cheaper, too. I'll keep bringing snacks this week.

On Wednesday, I get to experience the joy of colonoscopy again!

It wasn't too bad the last time (3 years ago), other than that gatorade/antifreeze stuff. It's still an upgrade from a day at the office. :)

Not really, if it is warm enough to walk without gloves I will put up with the other. Not too many times that happens. The glove thing is still the trump in this game.

If you are really getting into it, you could try a split: upper body one day and lower (legs and abs) the next. That way you can work out most days without straining the same muscles during their 48-hour recovery period.

I'm ignoring the cookie part of this thread. I have my own stash of thin mints hidden in the freezer.

I think it must be the weather, but after two sinus tablets, two liquid advil and one Maxalt the headache is finally gone. Hallelujah!!

I ordered 6 boxes from that little girl who doesn't know how to sell.

I am rethinking my postion that she doesn't know how to sell. I bought 6 boxes, didn't I?

I will eat them all myself.

Luckily she didn't know how to sell. If she was good at it you might have had a dozen boxes.

I was good. I only bought one box. They are gone. I am resisting the temptation to find a Girl Scout and buy more.

If she had been good, I would have a dozen or more coming, telling myself I would freeze them or give them away or some lie and then I would eat them all in 12 days.

Maybe I should thank the troop leader for not taking on teaching her how to sell.

We bought an old (but in excellent shape) Trotter universal gym on Craigslist for $150. We then bought a rubber mat to place underneath and a few additional bars for the arm exercises. We purchased an ab/back machine off of craigslist for $15. These things paired with the elliptical --it's like we own a gym. We are now on the hunt for a stairmaster or treadmill or both (used/cheap).

I have made it into the basement three times so far in the last two weeks for a 30 minute elliptical ride + full body weight work out. Vast improvement. With the two kiddies and the two doggies by the time 6pm rolls around I am totally exhausted. I would have gotten many more in had I had the energy to move at all.

We are eating more green stuff, less starchy carbs. We are cutting waaaaaay back on diet soda and drinking more green tea. I am getting many more hours of sleep a week than I used to. Ohio has been berry berry good to me - and getting better all the time.
