There's no doubt in my mind it's a Yardbird. But can you confirm that Clapton and Page are ranked ahead of Beck?megaaddict wrote:I think it's safe to remove the ? from JEFF BECK, former Yardbird (as are higher rankers Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page).8. Ranked by Rolling Stone as the fourth best British guitarist of all time, he only ranked third among members of his former band

Pretty sure that is correct but I don't know his name, if that is important.franktangredi wrote:

SULTAN OF BRUNEI?

Oh, the shaving movie is definitely Scorsese. The painter is Klimt, since that was around the time the Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer was sold, and it was speculated that so many paintings by him hitting the market peaked interest and thus price.
The explorer is probably Francis Drake. Cook sailed around 1770s. Drake's circumnavigation was almost 200 years previous to that. No one else fits.

Just got in - no progress?
Only thing I can think of:
DEVIL makes me think of "The Devil and Daniel Webster" - and we have a Daniel Bernoulli.
PHYSICS points toward a physicist, and outside of the two already there, I don't see much potential for one, except for Christian Doppler. And we have Christian Laettner....
So there could be something with using first names. We have Lamont Sanford, and Lamont Cranston is the SHADOW. Roma Downey and Roma Maffia, fromn CHICAGO Hope, could be linked. Francis Drake could somehow lead to Francis Baily, who discovered his namesake BEADS.
So perhaps a way to connect a first name to one on the list, with the last name (presumably by some kind of code) to another name on the list?

Maybe.....
Weyoun may have given it to me.
Francis Drake can be used with BEADS to give us Francis Baily, and Baily anagrams (now that we know who Smiler is) to Libya, home of Muammar Qaddafi.
Antonin Dvorak pairs with BENCH to suggest Antonin Scalia, which anagrams to Calais, associated with Livia, I guess?
I'm looking for more.

Nice shooting! Calais would tie to Rodin, who sculpted "The Burghers of Calais."mrkelley23 wrote:Weyoun may have given it to me.

Got one - LES NESSMAN leads to Les Aspin, who was DEFENSE Secretary. Aspin anagrams to Spain, giving us CERVANTES.
Also, pretty sure it is Mitch Kupchak. He's been GM for the two Kobe-Shaq titles, and it can't be Jerry West, as West only won one title as a player, believe it or not. And Dumars does not have an Olympic gold medal.

The Touchstone quote is from "As You Like It," which is set in the forest of ARDEN, which anagrams to NADER, as in #45 RALPH. I assume it ties in with Unsafe at any SPEED. Which means that SSS's Gordon match must pair with RACER.
