Dance, Dance Baby

#1 Post by Appa23 » Sun Mar 02, 2008 10:35 pm

Princess Peanut survived her second competition on Saturday.

The "Under the Big Top" Production number got huge applause, and won its category, meaning $150 for the studio. (I credit this win to the awesome backstage tech crew. ) Two other dances won overall and money for our studio.

Sadly, PP's other dance won a first place for 8 and Under small group but not an overall "High Mark" award for the age division. Was not as highly marked as the first time out. Based on other awards/scoring, these judges were more dazzled by leg catches and lifts than any actual dancing and telling a story through movement.

PP understands that she some things to work on, as a 5 year-old dancing with 8 & 9 year-olds.

Two weeks to the regional for the competition for which we plan to attend nationals.

BTW, I noted that Mr. Gacy has made an appearance on the Bored.

The solo dances in the teen category predoinantly were to these horribly depressing songs. One was a song entitled "John Wayne Gacy, Jr."

Another was a Collin Raye song about incest and child abuse ("11th Comamndment").

Meanwhile, our studio director's daughter danced to Taylor Swift's "Our Song".

She was invited to dance in a music video that the Master of Ceremonies was producing/directing for a new artist.

(Yes, her parents are thoroughly going to check it all out, as she is just 15.)

Congratulations to the awesome PP and the properly invisible-but-supportive backstage tech crew! In your avatar, she stands like a dancer, which earns my highest admiration.

Congrats to PP for her achievements at this young age. As long as she's having fun I think you are doing a great thing by supporting her.

I love your current avatar, and love the way PP is holding herself. Her posture LOOKS like it belongs to a dancer!

As for the song choices for some of the older dancers -- what in the world were their parents/teachers/choreographers thinking??!! Your directors should definitely check things out before allowing their daughter to be a part of the video.

It appears SC and I are on the same wavelength. I bow to the dancing master.

In case you were curious --

Timbaland's "Apologize" is a popular and good choice for a small group lyrical dance, as two of the better performances were done to this song.

I was delighted to see that our dance studio did a tap routine based on "Taxi" from "Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk", as it is my favorite Broadway production ever.

On a related note, is anyone out there watching MTV's "America's Top Dance Crew"? Some of the dances are crazy! (I am rooting for Kaba Modern.)
