What do you have against the middle name of Wayne? I think it's a perfect middle name.

We picked names that we liked (to heck with honoring relatives, especially relatives with creepy names). Our concern was to make sure that the names didn't form weird or embarassing initials: for a while we planned to have a boy named 'Andrew Scott,' but with a last name starting with 'S' we thought his monogram would be a pain, so the Wonder Child got 'Scott' as his middle name, and Andrew got David.

My brother and I both got nicknames as middle names: his is Steve, mine is Tom (the first English slang expression my mother learned was 'tomcat,' and she thought it was cute, so I got Tom). My brother has always gone by his middle name.

One thing in our family that is a bit odd is that, while we have no Waynes (surprisingly), we have a boatload of Ralphs: my grandfather was Ralph, my father was Ralph, my brother's real first name is Ralph, and my sweet Margaret's father's name was Ralph; when we were coming up with names for kids, one name we knew we would NEVER use was 'Ralph.'

Margaret was the third of four girls. The first was Mary Amelia (after multiple relatives), and being Suthren, has always used both names. The second was Martha Ann, and being Suthren, has always used both names (she writes it and everyone pronounces it as one word). Margaret was Margaret Agnes, but only used the first name. The fourth is Melissa Arlene, who also uses only her first name. The identical initials (and identical first three letters of the first names of the first three daughters, which also make up their monogram) were just a coincidence, but the family often used them, identifying the girls as 'MA1,' 'MA2,' 'MA3' and 'MA4' (when they were living at home and were out dating, their father-- Ralph-- left a sign-in sheet by the door, identifying them by number, and they were supposed to check in when they got home). Sometimes they just got the number without the initials (as in '2 is coming over for dinner tonight').

Bruce is a bit ticked off about his middle name ('The'), which he does not think has a lot of character, but we always thought he had character to spare, so it always worked for us, but I think if we had given him 'Wayne' as a middle name, it would have been appropriate (although 'Bruce Wayne Wonder Cat' is a bit cumbersome). That little bugger is 23 years old...

How do kids without middle names know when they are in trouble

I was named Theresa Lynn, but have always been Terry or T-lynn or just t. The Lynn is only ever invoked when I'm in trouble. Hmm. Go figure.

Perhaps it is rare but it can happen. My girlfriend has 3 "middle" names, all of which are listed on her passports and birth certificate. Alas, I guess my parents were not so creative as I have but one.

I had two middle names and have two last names and the whole bowl of alphabet soup appears on my legal documents. I feel like the line on my passport isn't big enough. It runs to two lines on my Social Security card.

I hyphenated the middle names when I got married because it looked disjointed when combined with my maiden name and married name, so legally I only have one middle name now: Marie-Alexis.

Well pilgrims, what's all the hooha about my name. Of course it's not my REAL name. It's only an MM......but you'd switch too if you were born Marion Morrision. And unlike that fictional Jones fellow, I was named after my dog Duke.

I'm another middle-name Lynn. I wasn't that pleased with it when I was a kid, because it seemed like a girl's name.

One day when I was in my teens or twenties, I was sitting on the couch and out of the blue, my dad called me "Lynn" in passing. It's probably the only time in my life anyone has called me that, but it changed my attitude completely. I feel like it's a name that belongs to me now, that I would gladly answer to, not just that thing attached to my first name on legal documents.
