Lyrically Speaking - 2/29/08

#1 Post by JJ Cale » Fri Feb 29, 2008 6:31 am

44 games have failed to decide the Winter 2008 Lyrically Speaking, so it all comes down to this game. What, it's not Wednesday you say? Well, you see, given that I've become the honorary grand marshall of the Winter LS, I thought it would be appropriate if I presented the final game. It was the least I could do for LB given the surge in popularity I've received ever since my biggest fan fantine helped to put me back on the map. Why, I've been invited to sing on American Idol, have gotten my picture on the cover of the Rolling Stone, and my groupie entourage has literally doubled to two! I'd go on and on about my change in fortunes, but I've got to rehearse for my appearance at an upcoming Nuggets halftime show.....

The following 20 songs were all heard by LB on his wide variety of Music Choice channels on February 22nd, though they can't have a very wide variety if they never play any of my classics. I didn't much care for the playlist when I saw it, but I promised my buddy LB I would post it just as it is.....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, and good luck to my biggest fan out there! MWAH, baby!

1. Nightshades on a warning
Give me strength at least give me a light
Give me anything even sympathy
There's a chance you could be right

2. Father, father, we don't need to escalate
War is not the answer, for only love can conquer hate

3. But please realize
You'll probably be surprised
For it's the land unknown to man
Where fantasy is fact

4. Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say

5. Someone's always playing corporation games
Who cares they're always changing corporation names

6. When I say that I'm o.k. they look at me kind of strange
Surely you're not happy now you no longer play the game

7. Go ahead as you waste your days with thinking
When you fall everyone stands
Another day and you've had your fill of sinking
With the life held in your
Hands are shaking cold
These hands are meant to hold

8. I took the city 'bout one A.M, loaded, loaded
I'm all geared up to score again, loaded, loaded
I come alive in the neon light
That's when I make my moves right

9. Maybe I didn't love you
Quite as often as I could have
And maybe I didn't treat you
Quite as good as I should have

10. The time is soon, you'll arrive, together then,
we'll escape into the night on wings of love,
and do the things that we onced dreamed of...
All aboard a luxury, a first class ticket to ecstasy

11. And all you'd ever hear me say
Is how I pictured me with you
That's all you'd ever hear me say

12. When you lived inside of me
There was nothing I could conceive
That you wouldn't do for me
Trouble seemed so far away
You changed that right away, baby

13. When I come home, baby,
my house is dark and my pots are cold.
You're hangin' round, baby,
with Jean and Joan and-a who knows who.

14. The wind in the willow played
Love's sweet melody
But all of those vows we made
Were never to be
Though we're apart, you're part of me still

15. On the ice blue line of insanity is a place most never see
It's a hard won place of mystery, touch it but can't hold it

16. I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing in her fingertips
It burned like fire
This burning desire

17. Come in and take a look at your mind
You'd be surprised what you might find, yeah
Strobe lights flashin' way till after sundown
People gather there from all parts of town

18. Open up the window, let some air into this room
I think I'm almost chokin' from the smell of stale perfume

19. My home lies deep within you
And I've got my own place in your soul
Now, when I look out through your eyes
I'm young again, even though I'm very old

20. I didn't mean to treat you bad,
Didn't know just what I had,
But honey now I do.

Yeah, that's what I've been saying for the last two months! :P

I'll vote "Present" in today's game. And then I'll demand that a certain few others play today, so they can get the heck out of my cellar.

Hurray for JJ! Somebody must really want a March LS game, because this is close to a Clavin Jeopardy Board for me. But not quite close enough, although I won't delete my LS game just yet in case I might actually pull this one out.

PS If JJ Cale actually strolls out onto the court at halftime tonight, I'll officially go apeshit.

My plan has worked to perfection. I believe I have sewn up the coveted #13 spot on the leader board!

Thanks for doing this, LB. I'm sure it took a lot of time and effort.

MWAH, baby!

6. Watching the Wheels - John Lennon and I guess technically Yoko Ono

7. Nope

8. Living After Midnight - Judas Priest (I very often think of all those heavy metal kids dressing up like good ol' Rob for a night on the town, too bad they didn't know what Rob was really doing in the leather)

9. You Were Always On My Mind - Elvis Presley, then Willie Nelson and finally The Pet Shop Boys

10. Huh, what, nope

11. Nope

12. Nope

Hell of way to close it out, I stunk it up on that one.
Thanks Beast, I know it take a tremendous amount of effort to run one of these things. Oh and here's a song you forgot off the 'it's over' game last week:

Last Song
(Edward Bear)

Did you know I go to sleep and
Leave the lights on
Hoping you'd come by and know
That I was home and still awake
But two years go by and still
My light's on
This is hard for me to say
But it is all that I can take

It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last time that I'll tell you
Just how much I really care
This is the last song I'll ever sing for you
You'll come looking for the light
And it won't be there
But I love you
Oh yes I do
Yes I do

All the times that I spent waiting
Wondering where you are
Always knew the time would come
When I would start to wonder why
Now the time is here
I don't know where you are
So I'll write you one more song
But it's the last time that I'll ever try

It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last time that I'll tell you
Just how much I really care
This is the last song I'll ever sing for you
You'll come looking for the light
And it won't be there
But I love you
Oh yes I do
Yes I do

It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last song I'll ever write for you
Enjoy every sandwich
