I just got back from a round-trip to Norman, OK

#1 Post by Bob Juch » Wed Feb 01, 2012 4:25 am

I will skip the sordid details of why I went there since I don't want to be accused of making it up.

I left at 6 PM and got back at 3 AM and discovered I had dropped my keys on the driver's seat after closing the locked door. I have a keypad. The card with the keypad code was stolen with my wallet about eight weeks ago. I had forgotten about it so didn't have it replaced. My spare key is in my apartment; my apartment keys were in the car. It cost "only" $50 to have a tow driver use a slim-jim to open it.

It's now 4:25 AM. I have to be at work in three hours.

This won't make the news. I hope "some" believe it.

So how can you be sure a squirrel didn't pick your pocket?
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I don't believe it...
Squirrels are the architects of forests, the planters of trees, nature's own acrobats and show a zest for life that can inspire us. Every day should be National Squirrel Appreciation Day!

--squirrelmama (10/3/07)

Many of these (squirrel) migrations were probably caused by food shortages as well as habitat overcrowding. We solved that for them. We not only reduced their habitat, we reduced the whole species by about 90%. The least we can do now is share a little birdseed with them.

It could have been an Evil Squirrel that stole my wallet but it wasn't pickpocketed, it was taken from a tabletop after I had paid my restaurant bill.

By any chance did you win second prize in a contest in which first prize was four tickets to Norman, OK?

I'd check to make sure the Fabuloso is well stocked and that there was plenty of Pepsi.

Why didn't you just steal the city limits sign if you were so desperate to prove such a wild, outlandish, and completely unbelievable story like you drove from Texas to Norman, OK? It's not like it isn't obvious you always look for any excuse to start a thread with a subject line that screams for the attention of a certain BB, which might guarantee you at least one reply if they don't have you on their foe list already. Heck, I'd have believed you had you said you drove up there just for that reason....

And although nobody is going to ask you, I'm sure you'll eventually share the story with the "sordid details" that goes with it anyway. But do us a favor and have your daughter or granddaughter concoct it for us. They're much more creative and entertaining liar.... uh, storytellers than you are...

My daughter's update on her lawsuit: She contacted a law firm that I found for her. A lawyer is actually flying down from New York to meet with her. They're going to sue the apartment complex, the police, and DFS. A police sergeant admitted to the lawyer that they shouldn't have entered the apartment, that it was a rookie and he made a mistake, and that DFS never should have gone there in the first place. This should make the news.

Norman has a very nice Walmart.

I've found that if one waits around a WalMart long enough, invariably a cop shows up. They usually have a slim jim they'll use for free.

Yes, but my car was at my apartment. After the tow-truck driver came, the cop who does security at night showed up, an hour after I had called. She had a slim-jim. I now have spare keys hidden outside my apartment.

Which no complex kid/bored teenager/etc could ever find and use to rob you.

At which point, no doubt, you'll be dailing for the police.

Regarding your daughter and given the update you provided, would she accept an apology from the rookie cop and the police department?

You wrote a rookie cop was looking, he thought, for a kidnapped young girl.

Besides, and I'm not denigrating the injustice done, her privacy being violated, was she harmed?

Don't get me wrong, I'd be p1ssed if this had happened to me, but the cop did leave his card (he didn't have to), the police admit they were wrong, and they were, according to your account, looking for what they thought was a kidnapped child. In those circumstances, I might be inclined to accept the apology.

So, would a public apology suffice or will a suit for a substantial amount follow? With the payment coming from the city's tax revenue which otherwise might go for other police, parks, etc, etc.

Curious as to the course of action you recommend to your daughter.

The child was not kidnapped, it was a custody dispute. No court order had been issued so each parent had the same rights.

I would have been majorly pissed and done my best to have people fired but I would not have sued.

I do not control what my daughter does. I told her it wasn't worth the time and aggravation.
