I left at 6 PM and got back at 3 AM and discovered I had dropped my keys on the driver's seat after closing the locked door. I have a keypad. The card with the keypad code was stolen with my wallet about eight weeks ago. I had forgotten about it so didn't have it replaced. My spare key is in my apartment; my apartment keys were in the car. It cost "only" $50 to have a tow driver use a slim-jim to open it.

It's now 4:25 AM. I have to be at work in three hours.

This won't make the news. I hope "some" believe it.

My daughter's update on her lawsuit: She contacted a law firm that I found for her. A lawyer is actually flying down from New York to meet with her. They're going to sue the apartment complex, the police, and DFS. A police sergeant admitted to the lawyer that they shouldn't have entered the apartment, that it was a rookie and he made a mistake, and that DFS never should have gone there in the first place. This should make the news.

I've found that if one waits around a WalMart long enough, invariably a cop shows up. They usually have a slim jim they'll use for free.

Yes, but my car was at my apartment. After the tow-truck driver came, the cop who does security at night showed up, an hour after I had called. She had a slim-jim. I now have spare keys hidden outside my apartment.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be p1ssed if this had happened to me, but the cop did leave his card (he didn't have to), the police admit they were wrong, and they were, according to your account, looking for what they thought was a kidnapped child. In those circumstances, I might be inclined to accept the apology.

So, would a public apology suffice or will a suit for a substantial amount follow? With the payment coming from the city's tax revenue which otherwise might go for other police, parks, etc, etc.

Curious as to the course of action you recommend to your daughter.

The child was not kidnapped, it was a custody dispute. No court order had been issued so each parent had the same rights.

I would have been majorly pissed and done my best to have people fired but I would not have sued.

I do not control what my daughter does. I told her it wasn't worth the time and aggravation.
