For what it's worth, I just read a book that made the point that it's bad for us to surround ourselves with people who only agree with us.

So, you've come to the right place to keep yourself challenged.

Now that's funny right there, I don't care who you are.. where's the link to that liquid spewing-proof keyboard?

Exactly.

I totally agree with this and when I post about my favorite topic, it makes me think about if I should do anything differently. But only if the challenge is not mean spirited but meant to challege not be nasty.

For the record, if we're disclosing our relationships with Macy's, when our local (well, kinda, at the mall 25 miles away) department store was taken over by Macy's, things improved. When Marshall Field's in downtown Chicago was taken over by Macy's, it was a cultural horror.* When the Water Tower Place Field's was taken over by Macy's, meh. Anyway. Who needs Macy's? If I can't get it at the local supermarket or Ace Hardware in town, at Costco, or at amazon.com, it doesn't exist.

*During the transition there was much talk about boycotting Macy's, but, uh, those people who once were Field's employees and became Macy's employees did not become our enemies and still need their jobs, and if we all stop shopping there, and they close the store, where are they going to work?
I'm sure there were unhappy people when Dayton Hudson bought Marshall Field's too.

I understand that Macy's only uses attorneys that have been approved by the Michigan Bar Association.

I'd venture a guess that the majority of them agree about you.

Buff, I'm arriving late for this thread, but I'll add to the replies.

My response to one of your threads (I think it was #4) was meant to be light hearted. As others have already said, your string of posts, all concerning Macy's, had me curious if you'd reveal the particular issue that provoked your complaints. (So far, I don't believe you have. That's fine, if you don't want to say, but we won't stop being curious.)

I have no problem with you starting multiple threads. Lots of people start lots of threads, with a lot less substance to them.

I applaud you for not using MM to post about serious issues.

I think that's about all. Oh, one more thing...

Sorry if I've annoyed too many folks. Honestly. Very surprised by the reaction to what posted. Stopping now.

Of course, I'm sure some clever soul will point to this thread and say "see, we told you so, something's wrong with him."
So you suddenly erupt out of seemingly nowhere with probably more than a dozen posts badmouthing Macy's and accusing them of the oppression of mankind (yes, that's hyperbole) and the shafting of any employee or customer that walks though their door and that's hunky dory, but somebody just puts out a rhetorical 'somebody must have pissed in his Post Toasties this morning' altered to be topic appropriate, a couple of people gave a 'yeah, what's up with that?' and that's mean and nasty?

You banging on Macy's didn't upset me. I've no truck with them, I've never set foot in their door and probably never will. If anything it was bemusement at your seeming naivete and subsequent outrage. Or pulling a Renault, it wasn't totally clear. Which was one of the reasons for my post.

Yes, the scattershotting on the index page did annoy me. But that wasn't you, it annoys me when anybody does it. It conveys a feeling of self-importance as if your golden thoughts each deserve their own special thread. Which is kind of self-defeating and inefficient. If you had a lot to say on the same topic, what's wrong with starting a thread titled "Macy's SUCKS and Here's Why!" and then making a separate post for each of your individual butthurts. I'm much more likely to read a series of posts in one thread than I am to click all over the damned place like it's a department store scavenger hunt and I bet a lot of others are that way as well.

The only other thing about your specific content that I thought was out of line was the "Employees fired on Christmas Morning" header as it was misleading at best, totally untrue at worst and deliberately provocative in either case. I don't like it when the political people do it and I don't like it in this case.

PS Employee discounts are a privilege, not a right. At least they have one (Costco doesn't). Twenty percent of your purchase on a gift card is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp staub.

You make some valid points here--but I stand by my comment re fired Christmas morning. When employees have been led to believe they will, or even may, be retained, when no manager talks to them about their status, when the schedule is posted Christmas morning, and when they see they have no hours scheduled, what would you call it? I call it they were fired, on-line, not in person, Christmas morning.
