#4: "Ninja Dog"
Debuted: 7/17/11
While not the first avatar drawn with this year's Four Footer rising star, BeBe, this is by far the one that most came to represent her. Both quiet and hard to spot in the dark, BeBe was quite obviously a canine ninja, and I worked off that analogy Sliver provided to draw up this avatar, which I also posted on SC's birthday. Of the many avatars that have been honored in this thread to contain nighttime scenes, none quite take advantage of the dark like this one did. BeBe and her ninja garb are difficult to pick out among the night sky and dark ground. The eyes glowing from the darkness under her hood are haunting. Christie complained that she couldn't even see the avatar, which made it all the more effective. BeBe honored ES by choosing this as her avatar when she registered for the Bored. That doesn't mean ES shouldn't still keep a sharp lookout behind him if he dares to venture out at night....

O Mr. litttle.
I am over welmed and I may cry. No body ever gave my picture a prize B4. I am still Xcited since Mr. Marley discovered that Mr. Santa and me are ninjas the same in the dark. Now this. Thank you for thinking a bout me. This world is a mazing place.
Lizbit sez I might get a big head now. I dont think so. My head is long but its prettty skinnny.

Someone please tell me that I'm not the only one who thinks that ninjadog really wrote this because I'm sure she did.
Congratulations on this fine showing, ND!
And thanks, Mr. Beast, for the humor, laughs, insights and (for lack of a better word) humaness, all these avatars bring. Am loving these countdowns!

And I shall strive harder next year to give you more fodder and/or grist for the mill.

As much as I love BeBe, I didn't submit this one For Your Consideration because I can't see it.
That being the point, of course . . .

Sometimes, the worst in people can bring out the best in ES. While the primary inspiration for this avatar was a picture taken by a friend of PKS's that showed a rainbow appearing to be balancing perfectly atop the Washington Monument, it is a fact that it probably never would have been drawn and made its way onto the Bored had jeemie not played Mr. Negativity and decided that the luck/skill of the photographer was more important than the beauty of the image itself. I had an inkling of Rainbow Donkey leaping the monument when I first saw the picture posted, but it wasn't until jeemie played killjoy that I just had to sketch it out. It is my best rendition ever of Rainbow Donkey, and adding Angel atop him was merely icing on the cake. This is a wonderfully happy avatar that at the time I drew it, I thought it was a strong contender for the #1 spot. While it ultimately fell short, it still makes a high appearance in the countdown to allow its smile-inducing powers to live on for one more day....
Fittingly the Washington Post had a rainbow on the top of its front page today. No word if the photographer should credit sheer luck.

#3: "Look What I Found!"
Debuted: 4/1/11
While this wasn't the only avatar I hijacked this year, it was the only one I did so in the classic form. As usual, the victim was Sprots, and this time it was a picture of her new puppy Annie. ES, apparently eager to greet his new doggie pal, didn't realize that Annie was already onto him and he wound up getting scooped up by the tail. Poor ES, who always seems to have an answer for everything, seems to be nervously perplexed in the corner of this avatar. Dogs chase him all the time, but they never catch him! What does he do now? Unseen in this avatar, Sprots' reaction to what Annie fetched just for her....

No apologies for liking this one, T! I adore it. Here's what I wrote in my For Your Consideration entry.
Annie was about three weeks old when this photo was taken, and LB captured her spirit of adventurousness, curiosity, and independence which she had then and still has today. She would love to snag a mangy rodent and shakeshakeshake.

#2: "I Want My Raff-er-bee!"
Debuted: 8/1/11
I decided to mix together the 30th anniversary of both MTV first hitting the airwaves and Rafferbee's birth into one avatar, and this was the result. RB and ES pay tribute to one of the most famous music videos of the classic MTV era, Dire Straits' "Money For Nothing", with the two drawn in the style of bulky 80's computer animation that was featured in the video. This was very difficult to pull off, but the result drew lots of praise from those who recognized the significance of the blocky style.... none being as impressed as T-Bone, who had to
shout from the rafters about how brilliant it was. Well, I don't know if it's a work of genius, but a worthy runner-up entry in this year's countdown....
And after all these avatars, what could have possibly taken the #1 spot in the 2011 ES Avatar Countdown? We'll find out in about 24 hours.....

Almost 5 months later, but my assessment of this one hasn't changed. Still freakin' brilliant.

When you said that you would bet that my #1 wouldn't even be on your list (again!), I immediately thought I knew which one you meant, but since there are still several of my top picks absent, it could be any number of them.....

I was only wildly predicting, based on past experience, that your #1 would probably miss my list again.... I didn't have a particular one in mind. There is one avatar I am sure is very high on your list that didn't even survive my first cut... and as is apparent now, there are others. But I'll bet we're thinking of the same avatar....
And that brings up to my #1, which I said I was sure was on your Top 20 somewhere (I'd think maybe even your Top 10). I was telling those who show up to chat that I thought that #1 this year wouldn't be as obvious once we got to the final day as it was the first two years, as it was apparent that Matias and La Sprotsie Bella had to have the top spot once all the others were revealed. I'm thinking that's still true.....

I would think that it would have to be in my Top 20 and most likely in my Top 10 because you've only hit a couple more of my picks and there are only so many avatars in the pool. I knew La Sprotsie Bella was going to be #1 before you even started rolling out the honourables (I might say that I knew it as soon as you drew it, but I won't go quite that far...).
I was planning on making my list be the last posts of FannyVIII but, even though I group my picks together rather than one at a time, i think that might not happen. Despite my best conservation efforts over the past couple weeks.
And don't think I missed your little dig there. There were circumstances that were beyond my control.....
