update on shooting

#1 Post by lilyvonschtupp26 » Mon Feb 25, 2008 12:56 pm

I saw my neighbor who was in the Valentine's day shooting at Northern Illinois U. It broke my heart to see her. She wasn't shot, her boyfriend was. He landed on her. She's no longer the same person.

She can't leave her house. She keeps taking showers (with someone guarding the bathroom) to try and get the blood off her. The dr. says she's suffering from post-traumatic stress like the soldiers who go to war.

Her Mom is shrunken from the stress. Her daughter insists her Mom or Dad sleep by the door to keep people from coming after her.

A former student from my building had her arm shattered from the shooting and her boyfriend died trying to protect her. This layer of guilt on top of her injuries has immobilized her as well.

None of these kids are going back to school.
Please continue with prayers please. They sure need them.

It's a horrible, horrible thing Lily.

Actually your neighbor has far more than mere PTSD. You say she can't leave the house so I assume she's not getting treatment. She needs some intensive psychiatric intervention. She will not get better on her own.

Please try to get her some help.

I would have thought all those involved would have been put right into counseling. And I don't just mean a casual 'you okay?' kind of thing.

Is she seeing anyone? This sounds like it needs immediate attention.

It is so sad that these young lives were so horribly splintered apart.

Thoughts and prayers redoubled.

She is getting help. The psychiatrist is coming to the house cuz she can't come out. From what I'm hearing from her Mom, her daughter isn't the worst.

It doesn't help that her boyfriend is still walking around with buckshot in his head, neck and shoulder that has to work its way to the surface. The gal just can't look at him.

It certainly helps him that he's alive & walking around, with or without the buckshot.

She has to look at him, for pity's sake.

This is bad. For the both of them.

Good Lord. What a horrible situation. I hope they will heal with time. I feel for them.

Checking in from an Internet connection in Memphis, TN as I heard there was a scare (report of a gunman) today back at SUNY Stony Brook, a short distance from home and I know at least one staffer. Fortunately I just read online from a couple of news sources that it was a false alarm.

I'll keep you and them in my prayers and thoughts, Lily.
