Eagle is a bird, not an animal.

I don't care what the definition is, a bird is not an animal. It is a bird.

that is all

Well, okay, you can ignore definitions all you like, but it's still an animal.
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Branch: Avialae
Class: Aves
And, I might add, the modern consensus of scientists also says that birds are dinosaurs. Remember that, next time the chickadees are waiting by an empty bird feeder!

Animal, vegetable or mineral. Given those three, you'd have to say "animal".

Seems to be a lot of that lately. Must be the lastest pretend excitement BS from TPTB to make sure we get "good TV".

I would never abuse the awesome power of the BBTranscriptTeam login to editorialize my personal feelings about the contestants. But that doesn't mean that tanstaafl2 isn't onto something.

Yeah, one more way SyndieBAM is trying to be like all those other game shows. (Except J!, of course. Wouldn't want to be like J!) What I find most interesting is the juxtaposition with the old rules that contestants couldn't even turn around and look at their companions, for fear that they'd be getting signals from them or something.

Sorry for the late post, but I usually miss the show and enjoy reading transcripts in bulk. Anyway, assuming this question was transcribed accurately, the writers got the guy's nationality wrong: he's Austrian, not Australian.

Thanks for this correction. I no longer have the show on my TiVo, but I think the error may be in the transcription. Can anyone confirm? --Bob

We're never told how to celebrate. They just tell us that even though we should never look at our companions during gameplay, we don't have to ignore them if we're not trying to answer a question. I think it's a pretty natural emotion to want to celebrate with your friends if you've done well... but it's probably just easier if we go down the tired road and blame it on the producers.

Those poor, blameless producers.

Okay, you weren't specifically told how to celebrate. But when TPTB make changes to longstanding traditions and protocols, they're doing it for a reason. Right?

For over a decade, they had the Hot Seat and I'm pretty sure contestants were never supposed to turn around and look at their companions, even during the banter segments when they weren't answering a question. That very well may have been overkill from the S&P people; if so, they had ample time to relax that particular rule. But by taking away the Hot Seat, they are encouraging, explicitly and implicitly, more physical reactions from the contestants. Hugs with companions. Hugs with Meredith (and not just stretching for the trademarked double handclasp). Dancing and jumping up and down and other natural emotions.

Contestants on J! might have those emotions, too. But TPTB want a show more like DoND and less like J!

Less like WWTBAM.
