Lyrically Speaking - 2/22/08

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Fri Feb 22, 2008 6:48 am

You know it, you love it! Free For All Friday! All of today's songs were pulled from my wide variety of Music Choice cable channels on February 8th (except for #19, which was supposed to appear last week, but oh well). This game closes Monday morning....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist.....

1. We go a party and everyone turns to see
This beautiful lady that's walking around with me

2. What's there to say, there's not much to talk about
And whatever happened to all of the love that we vowed
Yes, it's true
And there's nothing new
You can say

3. Tax the rich
Feed the poor
Till there are no
Rich no more

4. Take a look around you; nothing's what it seems
We're living in the broken home of hopes and dreams,
Let me be the first to shake a helping hand.
Anybody brave enough to take a stand

5. You stand in the line just to hit a new low
You're faking a smile with the coffee to go
You tell me your life's been way off line
You're falling to pieces everytime

6. Yes, I'm let loose
From the noose
That's kept me hanging about
I've been looking at the sky
'Cause it's gettin' me high
Forget the hearse 'cause I never die

7. "Come on home, girl" Mama cried on the phone
"Too soon to lose my baby yet, my girl should be at home"

8. Blue as the sky, sunburnt and lonely,
Sipping tea in a bar by the roadside,
(just relax, just relax)
Don't you let those other boys fool you,
Got to love that afro hair do.

9. She sat right down on the sofa
She says where have you been?
I been waiting for you
Cause last night i had something so good

10. The movie wasn’t so hot, it didn’t have much of a plot
We fell asleep, our goose is cooked, our reputation is shot

11. We’ll light a candle as a symbol of our love
Then we’ll move real close like in a perfect fantasy, oh
I wish these moments could go on and on and on
But before you leave I want you to know

12. I can tell you got plans for me
And your eyes are saying you made them carefully
But tonight I have to say there just might be another way
Won't you spare me all the charms and take me in your arms

13. I’ve listened to preachers
I’ve listened to fools
I’ve watched all the dropouts
Who make their own rules

14. In my eyes
Indisposed
In disguise as no one knows
Hides the face
Lies the snake
The sun in my disgrace

15. All I really wanna say
I can't say it's love I need
But my soul will have to wait till I get back and find heina of my own

16. Well the years start coming and they don't stop coming
Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running
Didn't make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb

17. When you love someone it's natural, not demanding
And that's one thing I'm proud to say I found in you
I'm so glad we reached an understanding
Now I know my heart is safe with you, hoo...
So now my love to you, baby, I surrender

18. Here come the dancers 1 by 1
Your mama's callin' But you're havin' fun
You find you're dancin' on that number 9 cloud
Put your head together and sing it out loud

19. Caught up in the touch
The slow and steady rush
Baby, isn't that the way that love's supposed to be

20. All that I needed was you
Oh girl, you're so right
And all that I wanted was you
You made all
My dreams come true

Spoiler
You know it, you love it! Free For All Friday! All of today's songs were pulled from my wide variety of Music Choice cable channels on February 8th (except for #19, which was supposed to appear last week, but oh well). This game closes Monday morning....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist.....

1. We go a party and everyone turns to see
This beautiful lady that's walking around with me

Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton

2. What's there to say, there's not much to talk about
And whatever happened to all of the love that we vowed
Yes, it's true
And there's nothing new
You can say

3. Tax the rich
Feed the poor
Till there are no
Rich no more

Change the World - Ten Years After

4. Take a look around you; nothing's what it seems
We're living in the broken home of hopes and dreams,
Let me be the first to shake a helping hand.
Anybody brave enough to take a stand

Have a Nice Day - Bon Jovi

5. You stand in the line just to hit a new low
You're faking a smile with the coffee to go
You tell me your life's been way off line
You're falling to pieces everytime

Bad Day - Daniel Powter

6. Yes, I'm let loose
From the noose
That's kept me hanging about
I've been looking at the sky
'Cause it's gettin' me high
Forget the hearse 'cause I never die

Back in Black - AC/DC

You need an all AC/DC day next week so I have a chance to catch up. Make it on Monday, then we can match the songs with Bon Scott and Brian Johnson, that way it will still fit a theme.

7. "Come on home, girl" Mama cried on the phone
"Too soon to lose my baby yet, my girl should be at home"

Magic Man - Heart

8. Blue as the sky, sunburnt and lonely,
Sipping tea in a bar by the roadside,
(just relax, just relax)
Don't you let those other boys fool you,
Got to love that afro hair do.

Put Your Records On - Corinne Bailey Rae

I think Vh1 picks their You Oughta Know artists just to ensure that I will hate those songs.

9. She sat right down on the sofa
She says where have you been?
I been waiting for you
Cause last night i had something so good

10. The movie wasn’t so hot, it didn’t have much of a plot
We fell asleep, our goose is cooked, our reputation is shot

Wake Up Little Susie - Everly Brothers

I choose the stance that there is no comma in that sentence, with the real story being more sordid than we are led to believe.

Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne

What's the over/under on how many people couldn't resist typing AY! AY! AY!. I'll say 4. Well, 5 counting me. Ha!

14. In my eyes
Indisposed
In disguise as no one knows
Hides the face
Lies the snake
The sun in my disgrace

Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden

All Star - Smashmouth

17. When you love someone it's natural, not demanding
And that's one thing I'm proud to say I found in you
I'm so glad we reached an understanding
Now I know my heart is safe with you, hoo...
So now my love to you, baby, I surrender

18. Here come the dancers 1 by 1
Your mama's callin' But you're havin' fun
You find you're dancin' on that number 9 cloud
Put your head together and sing it out loud

Rock & Roll Fantasy - Bad Company

19. Caught up in the touch
The slow and steady rush
Baby, isn't that the way that love's supposed to be

20. All that I needed was you
Oh girl, you're so right
And all that I wanted was you
You made all
My dreams come true

ANSWERS/POINTS

#25 Post by littlebeast13 » Mon Feb 25, 2008 7:55 am

1. We go a party and everyone turns to see
This beautiful lady that's walking around with me
Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton

2. What's there to say, there's not much to talk about
And whatever happened to all of the love that we vowed
Yes, it's true
And there's nothing new
You can say
Give Me The Reason - Luther Vandross

3. Tax the rich
Feed the poor
Till there are no
Rich no more
I'd Love To Change the World - 10 Years After (Ed gets the non-existant humor points for his answer...)

Bad Day - Daniel Powter (When these two songs both showed up while I was compiling this game, I just had to put them back to back, though since most people missed the Bon Jovi song, the gag was lost on most...)

6. Yes, I'm let loose
From the noose
That's kept me hanging about
I've been looking at the sky
'Cause it's gettin' me high
Forget the hearse 'cause I never die
Back in Black - AC/DC

9. She sat right down on the sofa
She says where have you been?
I been waiting for you
Cause last night i had something so good
Hangin Around - Counting Crows

10. The movie wasn’t so hot, it didn’t have much of a plot
We fell asleep, our goose is cooked, our reputation is shot
Wake Up Little Susie - Everly Brothers

11. We’ll light a candle as a symbol of our love
Then we’ll move real close like in a perfect fantasy, oh
I wish these moments could go on and on and on
But before you leave I want you to know
Some Kind of Lover - Jody Watley

12. I can tell you got plans for me
And your eyes are saying you made them carefully
But tonight I have to say there just might be another way
Won't you spare me all the charms and take me in your arms
Make a Move on Me - Olivia Newton John

13. I’ve listened to preachers
I’ve listened to fools
I’ve watched all the dropouts
Who make their own rules
Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne (The first time I ever heard this song was when I was at Coors Field in 1996, and they played it every time Larry Walker came to bat. It became a nightmare song when Atlanta adopted it for Chipper, and Braves-fan sister would always listen for it everytime during TBS games....)

14. In my eyes
Indisposed
In disguise as no one knows
Hides the face
Lies the snake
The sun in my disgrace
Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden

15. All I really wanna say
I can't say it's love I need
But my soul will have to wait till I get back and find heina of my own
Santeria - Sublime (Don't even ask me about "heina", whether that's what it's supposed to be or not. A lot of people knew this one, though....)

16. Well the years start coming and they don't stop coming
Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running
Didn't make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb
All Star - Smashmouth

17. When you love someone it's natural, not demanding
And that's one thing I'm proud to say I found in you
I'm so glad we reached an understanding
Now I know my heart is safe with you, hoo...
So now my love to you, baby, I surrender
A Night To remember - Shalamar (What were the odds that the first and last games of the week would feature both a Jody Watley & Shalamar song? I swear that was unintentional....)

18. Here come the dancers 1 by 1
Your mama's callin' But you're havin' fun
You find you're dancin' on that number 9 cloud
Put your head together and sing it out loud
Rock & Roll Fantasy - Bad Company

19. Caught up in the touch
The slow and steady rush
Baby, isn't that the way that love's supposed to be
Breathe - Faith Hill (This was supposed to be in last week's game, and I Want It That Way in this week's game....)

20. All that I needed was you
Oh girl, you're so right
And all that I wanted was you
You made all
My dreams come true
The Right Stuff - New Kids on the Block (I can't believe it's been almost 20 years since my sisters went through their New Kids phase and I hated the band with all my heart. If I heard this on the radio now, I'd turn it up, because it's part of what made the 80's great, and this was their best [I hate that NKOTB is almost exclusively remembered for Hangin' Tough]....)
