There are times I just wish either one of us had a living mom.

Frankie's got "thrush". We've got some kind of orangey goo that we're supposed to put in his mouth. With an eyedropper. 1 ml on each side, 4x/day.

The eyedropper doesn't shoot, it drops. Are we really supposed to play the "open your mouth" game long enough and at the right angle to get all that stuff in there? Or are we supposed to just shove the dropper in the side of his mouth and squeeze like hell? I worry about contaminating the medicine with the stuff that's in his mouth?

You can't exactly wrap orange gooey drops in bacon...

Thrush is basically the same thing as a yeast infection, just in the mouth instead of "down there." Either sex can get it, adults as well as babies. Common side-effect of antibiotics (I have much painful & embarrassing knowledge of this). Also common in folks with suppressed immune systems (AIDS, on chemo, etc.....)

It may also show up on his diaper area -- if he gets a rash down there, your pediatrician can diagnose it for sure, but good ol' Monistat is the remedy.

Thanks. Yep, Frankie's nursing. Well, he's nursing for 5 min and falling asleep.

Mom was GBS positive so during labor she had a dose of antibiotics every 4 hours for 36+ hours. Played hell with her system, she's been taking probiotics ever since, but still isn't quite right.

If the eyedropper isn't working, you could put the orange suspension on a soft washcloth & swab his mouth with it. The main thing is to get the medicine in contact w/ the yeast.

I remember my poor Dad being on Bactrim for a kidney infection once, and developing a raging case of thrush -- both oral & "the other end" of his digestive system. Being a guy, he had no idea what the heck was wrong! Being girls, my Mom & I knew exactly what was wrong & got him some Monistat (prescription only in those days) & the oral suspension like you're giving Frankie. And lots & lots of yogurt! Fixed him right up.

Adults can also get an oral tablet instead of the suspension -- they're pretty big, & you just let them dissolve in your mouth. They last a lot longer than the suspension, so you can keep a supply on hand if you're prone to these infections. I used to get it prescribed any time I had to take an antibiotic 'cause I knew I'd end up needing it.
