I'm sure some people would think I should be happy for Kristen and happy for her parents being happy for Kristen, but I watched this while thinking that not only didn't her dad get his shot at the show, he didn't even get to sit in the companion seat or have his name mentioned on air. :|

1979 is an "early" invention?

Note the following from Wikipedia:
The computer was designed by British industrial designer Bill Moggridge in 1979, and first sold three years later.
Okay, so the detail they included in the question is correct. I simply didn't remember the GRiD, probably because it was so much more expensive than the Osborne that I may not have ever seen one. But I will note that three years makes a huge difference when discussing the history of modern technology and 1982 would be a much more meaningful date, being when it was actually marketed to the public.

I hope I would have ATA here. I would have said chocolate on my own.

OK, in 30 minutes, it's 1:04, so in 40 minutes, it's 1:14, and in 50 minutes, 1:24. Except you subtract one minute, so it's 1-2-3! Whew! I would have made the audience listen to all that.
Question #3 - Level 8: Famous Inspirations
A theory emerged in 2011 that what famous painting was actually inspired by the artist's male apprentice?

A: Whistler's Mother B: Girl with a Pearl Earring
C: The Birth of Venus D: Mona Lisa
I read something about this, but I think you could eliminate the other three fairly easily.

JTQ.

Well, she was right -- she dint lose that much by guessing. A 10-year dream ends with $1,000 -- but at least she got her chance.

Her poor dad. His kid gets a shot he never had and an event that was of national news (when she probably would have been paying some attention) stops her cold.

Too bad.

Actually the husband "auditioned" many times - no word about whether he tried the phone game.

I'd have done the same thing. So what is this "cookie diet"?

Good for her in figuring this out in a relatively short amount of time.

I was expecting GPS to be one of the responses. Turns out "Grid" is actually GRiD and refers to the name of the company. I probably would have used a JTQ on this question.

Too bad, but she did have sense to know that it was worth going for it because of the relatively small sum in her bank.

This was the fifth of the episodes I saw taped. For some reason, TPTB are airing them out of order - the other four haven't aired yet.

It looks like they added the $1,000 consolation prize graphic for Kristen in post production. No mention of it was made during the five tapings I saw, so I asked around and it was suggested that it was going to be eliminated.

I'm glad TPTB thought better of that idea, since it's not a significant part of the prize budget and contestants are paying their own costs to appear. Meredith has not been mentioning the consolation prize very much this season anyway - saying things like "you'll lose your bank" to the contestants.

I thought the reason for the $1K consolation prize was to make up for the fact that contestants had to pay their own way.
