The Rangers' win over Oakland today was Texas's 83rd win of the season and the As' 80th loss. Oakland can win at most 82 games, so it cannot win the American League Western Division. Two teams in the American League Eastern Division have won at lest 85 games, so Oakland cannot win the Wild Card. The As have been toastified. --Bob

Colorado lost tonight for the 78th time this season so the Rockies cannot win more than 84 games. Arizona has already won 87 games, so Colorado cannot win the National League Western Division. The Mets and the Nationals both have lost 77 games, so neither team can win more than 85 games; therefore, neither team can finish better than third in the division. Continuing a tradition of crashing this thread, the Vancouver Whitecaps were toastified over the weekend. Their loss to Seattle means they cannot qualify for the MLS playoffs in their inaugural season. Next up are Toronto TC and the New England Revolution. They could both be toast this weekend. (NOTE: TFC is already virtual toast since they would not only have to win out while NY loses out to even have a chance to tie for the last playoff spot, Toronto would also have to make up a 28 goal deficit in goal difference. But, hey, you never know.)
