#1 Post by BBTranscriptTeam » Sun Sep 18, 2011 7:08 pm

Laura Lewis
New York City, NY
Stay-at-home mom

Laura has $26,600 in her bank, and two lifelines available (ATA and JTQ). Her daughter Audrey is 16 months old. Her husband is in the audience. They are living in tight quarters, a studio apartment with a separate kitchen and bathroom but the rest is just one room. It's like camping, night after night after night...She doesn't want too much, just a separate bedroom.

Topic Tree: (randomized)
1 - Niche Vacations
4 - On a Stroll
5 - Art Words
8 - Oops
9 - Anything But Gentle
2 - Fruit Clusters
6 - In Style
10 - Actual Inspirations
7 - Controversial Collection
3 - Late Fees

Question #6 (Anything But Gentle - Level 9)
Even though its name translates to "gentle art," what sport utilizes moves such as "lion killer choke" and "Indian death lock"?
A - sumo
B - karate
C - jujitsu
D - aikido

Laura focuses on "gentle art" but says that none of them sound familiar so she decides to jump the question.
Spoiler
Answer: C (jujitsu)
Value: $2000
Bank: $26,600 (no change)
Question #7 (Oope - Level 8)
In 2010, the Nicaraguan army blamed errors in Google Maps after it accidentally invaded what neighboring country?
A - Honduras
B - El Salvador
C - Guatamala
D - Costa Rica

Laura expresses amazement then decides to ask the audience.
ATA results
A - 31%
B - 36%
C - 18%
D - 15%
Laura was afraid the audience response would be split. In 2010 she was having a baby so that year is a bit of a blur and she was hoping it wouldn't have been for the audience. Meredith lays out her options. Laura says that $13,000 is a lot of money and would go a long way toward getting her an extra bedroom. She wants to go for it but she's nervous. She'll feel amazing if she's right and "beyond lousy" if she's wrong. She came with nothing and could leave with $13,000 and so that's what she has to do. She thanks the audience for voting and acts as if she's going to walk, but then says, "Now I've said that but I feel like I should go for it. Meredith says she has to make up her mind and Laura but then she says, "I'm going to be prudent and I'm going to walk with my $13,000. That's my final answer."
Spoiler
Answer: D (Costa Rica)
Value: unrevealed
Bank: $13,300 (half the bank)

Laura screams when she sees the right answer because it received the lowest audience vote.

Back when I was actively studying for Jeopardy, I wrote exactly one mnemonic, the order of the countries of Central America, north to south. (I was, and still am, more of a flashcard guy when it comes to memorizing, but I'm coming around.)

(Also, should anyone care, "My good (but extremely stupid) husband never covets porn.")

So, I was able to narrow this question down to 2, but I would have pulled the trigger in the wrong direction, I'm afraid.

I predicted this topic would appear on the show! 8) We even got into an argument about technicalities and so forth.

And then when I saw the show on Friday, I couldn't remember if it was Costa Rica or Honduras.

Before Estonut makes the correction for me: I'm afraid I predicted this question would appear last season, so my prognostication was several months too early. :P

This is something I have a hard time keeping straight, so thank you for that! I will definitely be using it.

It's funny how people try to predict nitpicking and are usually wrong. I would not have brought this up.

Okay.

But I referenced a thread where you did nitpick, so I thought it was a good bet.

I don't click on links unless the poster makes clear what are the contents. :)

I thought the smiley after the "nitpick" made it clear I was just joking.

This is one of those "you know it or you don't" questions, and obviously the audience didn't.

Mnemonics are very helpful. I still remember my favorite version of the one that helped me learn the branches of the facial nerve! It involved zebras being rather naughty...

This one is a bit tricky though because Belize is farther north than Guatemala and Honduras is farther north than El Salvador. Unless the parantheses are intended to compensate for that somehow.

That was (exactly) my intent with the parentheses.
