Fire up the toaster

#1 Post by Bob78164 » Mon Aug 22, 2011 11:54 pm

The Houston Astros have lost for the 86th time this season, so they cannot win more than 76 games. Milwaukee has won 77 games so Houston cannot win the National League Central Division. With Atlanta's win today, two teams in the National League Eastern Division have won 77 games, so Houston cannot win the wild card. The Astros have been toastified. --Bob

Who cares? Its football season baby! :D

The Houston Lastros have been a disappointment. But its not like they are losing with any real players. They are essentiall a AAA team playing in the big leagues. Not too bad if you look at it that way.

I haven't been to a game this year, and probably won't.

It's my fault! I was in Houston for the first time ever on Monday and brought the Disaster Generator with me!

I was there for less than an hour and was only outside long enough to walk across the tarmac, so it was only a mild disaster...

Meanwhile the AA-ball Eastern League has seen the toaster arrive. The Portland Sea Dogs(Boston) were the first toasted. The Altoona Curve (Pirates) barely escaped the toaster tonight. The Binghamton Mets are still alive! Mathematically that is.

By the way, the Orioles aren't quite toast yet (at least, not mathematically), but they have already been eliminated from the American League Eastern Division race. The Yankees and Boston have 6 games remaining against each other, the Yankees and Tampa Bay have 6 games remaining against each other, and Boston and Tampa Bay have 6 games remaining against each other, so the AL Eastern Division champion will necessarily win at least 85 games. --Bob

The Curve still have a horseshoe or two, as it were.

Binghamton's ready for some hockey!!

Update on the lil' toaster: It has claimed the Altoona Curve, Erie Sea Wolves, and Portland Sea Dogs. As a result of New Britain's win tonight, The Binghamton Mets can at best tie for the Eastern wild-card. They won to keep the toaster at bay another night.

Congrats to the Harrisburg Senators, who are the first Eastern League team to clinch a playoff berth. Stephen Strasburg is up for a rehab start tomorrow night.

congratulations to a team which 20-odd years ago rocked due to the talent at the time in the Expos organization (Cliff Floyd and Rondell White together, one year), and best of luck to the young phenomenon Strasburg in his comeback. Like the train back to Washington, DC, he'll be electrified, I'm sure.

Strasburg: 6 innings, only two baserunners allowed a hit-by-pitch in the 5th and a double in the 6th. Catcher on a rehab assignment was Pudge Rodriguez. Nats, I mean Senators, pounding on Portland 10-0. Stephen King's GS HR turned an already decisive game into an absolute horror for the Bosox affiliate.

The Binghamton Mets won again. But the New Britain Rock Cats slammed the Squirrels 8-0. The B-Mets were previously eliminated from the division race and now cannot catch the Rock Cats for the East wild-card. The B-Mets are toast.

Baltimore's loss today was its 81st loss of the season, so it cannot win more than 81 games. The Yankees' victory over the Red Sox was New York's 82nd win of the season, and Boston has won 83 games, so Baltimore cannot finish higher than 3rd in the American League Eastern Division. The Orioles have been toastified. --Bob

The Yankees AA affiliate, the Trenton Thunder, are mathematically out of the East wild-card race and therefore have joined the Mets in the lil' toaster.

The Akron Aeros won at Harrisburg 6-2. However, the Richmond Flying Squirrels won 6-3 in 14 innings at Altoona. The Aeros may yet catch the reeling Baysox, but they can no longer catch the Squirrels in the West wild-card race. The Aeros have been toastified.

When the Squirrels were declared the winner in a rain-shortened game in Altoona, the Bowie Baysox were toastified.
When the Reading Phillies won at the B-Mets today, the New Britain Rock Cats were toastified.

Detroit's win today was its 80th win of the season. Kansas City has lost 83 games, and Minnesota (with its loss today) has lost 84 games, so neither team can win more than 79 games. Therefore, neither Kansas City nor Minnesota can win the American League Central Division. Two teams in the American League Eastern Division have won 85 games, so the Wild Card is also out of reach. Both the Royals and the Twins have been toastified. --Bob

The Rangers' win today was Texas's 81st win of the season. Seattle has lost 82 games, so the Mariners cannot win more than 80 games. Seattle therefore cannot win the American League Western Division. Two teams in the American League Eastern Division have already won at least 85 games, so Seattle cannot win the Wild Card either. The Mariners have been toastified. --Bob

Chicago's loss today was the Cubs' 81st loss of the season, so they cannot win more than 81 games. I don't remember four teams getting toasted on the same day before. And if Arizona had won, it would have been five. --Bob

By sweeping the Mets in a doubleheader, Atlanta became the second team in the National League Eastern Division to win at least 84 games. Florida has lost 79 games, so the Marlins cannot win more than 83 games. Florida therefore cannot finish better than third in the National League Eastern Division. The Marlins have been toastified. --Bob

Pittsburgh's loss today was the Pirates' 79th loss of the season, so they cannot win more than 83 games. Milwaukee has already won 85 games, so Pittsburgh cannot win the National League Central Division. Two teams in the National League Eastern Division have won at least 84 games, so the Pirates cannot win the Wild Card. Pittsburgh may still finish the season above .500 (though I doubt it), but the Pirates have been toastified. --Bob
