Some of the Fear Factor-like stunts (which will apparently be different every week) looked pretty fun, especially swinging the kids at the giant velcro dartboard. And who wouldn't like the symbolism of smashing an office desk with a 10-lb sledgehammer?
Although the potential prize (up to $50K for the winning team) is fairly modest for a primetime network show, I liked the twist of having it depend on the dad knowing how his kid would answer. This week's winner was a little deficient there. But shouldn't the kid be offstage when dad is answering?
I disliked how they inserted some formulaic dragging out the tension moments. Let's stop showing the score of the second team during the final play-off, so we can go to a commercial break before we reveal it. Feh!
And the trivia round was pretty lame. All the kids have to wait for the Q&A to be revealed, Jeopardy-style, but then the dads have all the time they like to take their guess and "lock it in"? Not impressive.
Particularly for the dad who thought J. K. Rowling was a man.
