Lyrically Speaking - 2/18/08

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Mon Feb 18, 2008 7:36 am

It's time for Match Game Monday! Today's songs can be grouped into 6 pairs based on some common theme. Since we had a couple new players in Friday's game, I will repeat my warning for Match Game Monday to beware of cover versions since the artists themselves can also be involved in the matches. In such cases, I try to choose songs associated with just one artist/group, but there are too many J.J. Cales in the world that I am unaware of....

1 point for the artist, 1 point for the title, and 1 point for each correct match.....

1. We got the rhythm
We've got the music on our side
If we go with 'em
I'll bet we'll have a wonderful ride

2. Been running so fast
Right from the starting line
No more connections
I don't need any more advice

3. And all of the things that I said that I wanted
Come rushing by in my head when I'm with you
14 joys and a will to be merry
And all of the things that we say are very

4. If you're wrapping up the world
Cause you've taken someone else's girl
When they turn on the pillow
Even when they answer the telephone

5. All I keep thinking about is her in my arms
(Got to see what love is all about)
And I won't be the same until she is mine
And my friends keep telling me to

6. All over the country
I'm seeing the same
Nobody's winning
At this type of game

7. Something's coming over me
I'm so dizzy I can't see
Can't make out the forest for the trees
My heart is beating faster now
As the traffic's slowing down
And suddenly I'm all alone with you

8. You said that you love me
And that you always will
Oh you begged me to keep you
In that house on the hill

9. You could have a big dipper
Going up and down, all around the bends
You could have a bumper car, bumping
This amusement never ends

10. Moving sidewalks, I don't see under my feet
Rising up from down here below where the streets see
me lonely for you.

11. Now you're like the rest
Unworthy of my best
Hasta la vista, baby

12. It's drivin' me out of my mind
That's why it's hard for me to find
Can't get it out of my head
Miss her, kiss her, love her (Wrong move you're dead)

OK, this is obviously former members of bands who went solo. Unfortunately, I've got too many "Nope" answers to go too far.

But:

3-8

I'll put 1 - 11 (it can't be Janet, but I can hear a chick singing it, and it's not one of the Go-Gos.
2 - 7 (the only other one without a "her" in the lyric!)

ANSWERS/POINTS

#15 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Feb 19, 2008 7:41 am

1. We got the rhythm
We've got the music on our side
If we go with 'em
I'll bet we'll have a wonderful ride
Dancin' in the Sheets - Shalamar

2. Been running so fast
Right from the starting line
No more connections
I don't need any more advice
Head Over Heels - Go Go's

3. And all of the things that I said that I wanted
Come rushing by in my head when I'm with you
14 joys and a will to be merry
And all of the things that we say are very
Sentimental Lady - Bob Welch

4. If you're wrapping up the world
Cause you've taken someone else's girl
When they turn on the pillow
Even when they answer the telephone
Abacab - Genesis

5. All I keep thinking about is her in my arms
(Got to see what love is all about)
And I won't be the same until she is mine
And my friends keep telling me to
Cool It Now - New Edition

6. All over the country
I'm seeing the same
Nobody's winning
At this type of game
Free Ride - Edgar Winter Group

7. Something's coming over me
I'm so dizzy I can't see
Can't make out the forest for the trees
My heart is beating faster now
As the traffic's slowing down
And suddenly I'm all alone with you
Rush Hour - Jane Weidlin

8. You said that you love me
And that you always will
Oh you begged me to keep you
In that house on the hill
Big Love - Fleetwood Mac

9. You could have a big dipper
Going up and down, all around the bends
You could have a bumper car, bumping

Looking For a New Love - Jody Watley

12. It's drivin' me out of my mind
That's why it's hard for me to find
Can't get it out of my head
Miss her, kiss her, love her (Wrong move you're dead)
Poison - Bell, Biv, Devoe

The theme was artists and bands they used to belong to.

1-11 - Jody Watley was a member of Shalamar

2-7 - Jane Wiedlin was a member of the Go Go's (Using Belinda Carlisle would have been too easy. I tried to avoid lead singers)

3-8 - Bob Welch was a member of Fleetwood Mac

4-9 - Peter Gabriel was a member of Genesis

5-12 - Bell Biv Devoe was a trio of former New Edition members

6-10 - Dan Hartman was a member of the Edgar Winter Group (It's funny that TiV mentioned Hartman wrote Free Ride, yet missed out on the song that Hartman's famous for... and I'm not talking about Instant Replay, which is an erstwhile Wal~Mart Radio classic....)

The player list was a bit light perhaps due to the "holiday".....
