Question/Suggestion for BBTranscriptTeam

#1 Post by Estonut » Fri Mar 04, 2011 5:46 pm

I have an idea that would make the transcripts even more informative, with very little effort, especially for those for carryover contestants.

Here are the pre- and post-randomization topic trees for a recent contestant:
BBTranscriptTeam wrote:Scott Mullikin
Florence, KY

Topic tree (unrandomized)
* Who's That Actress
* Sports Movies
* Film Debut
* Movie Soundtracks
* NETFLIX CLIP
* Classic Movies
* Musical Numbers
* Spoiler Alert
* Return To Sea
* Fan Appreciation

Topic tree (randomized)
* Movie Soundtracks
* Musical Numbers
* Fan Appreciation
* Film Debut
* Return To Sea
* Who's That Actress
* Spoiler Alert
* Sports Movies
* NETFLIX CLIP
* Classic Movies
Here is the topic tree for his carryover appearance:
BBTranscriptTeam wrote:Million Dollar Movie Week

Scott Mullikin
Florence, KY

Question Topics (Randomized):
* Movie Soundtracks
* Musical Numbers
* Fan Appreciation
* Film Debut
* Return to Sea
* Who's That Actress
* Spoiler Alert
* Sports Movies
* $25,000
* [Jumped]
What do you think about adding numbering representing questions 10 through 1 to the trees, like this?
BBTranscriptTeam wrote:Scott Mullikin
Florence, KY

Topic tree (unrandomized)
10 Who's That Actress
9 Sports Movies
8 Film Debut
7 Movie Soundtracks
6 NETFLIX CLIP
5 Classic Movies
4 Musical Numbers
3 Spoiler Alert
2 Return To Sea
1 Fan Appreciation

Topic tree (randomized)
7 Movie Soundtracks
4 Musical Numbers
1 Fan Appreciation
8 Film Debut
2 Return To Sea
10 Who's That Actress
3 Spoiler Alert
9 Sports Movies
6 NETFLIX CLIP
5 Classic Movies
Then, especially for those transcribers who do not repeat the unrandomized topic tree on the carryover transcript, the unrandomized order is built into and displayed along with the randomized list. For that matter, there actually would no longer be a need to print the unrandomized list for any transcript, but that may be taking this "baby step" too far. My proposal would make the tree on the carryover transcript look like this:
BBTranscriptTeam wrote:Million Dollar Movie Week

Scott Mullikin
Florence, KY

Question Topics (Randomized):
7 Movie Soundtracks
4 Musical Numbers
1 Fan Appreciation
8 Film Debut
2 Return To Sea
10 Who's That Actress
3 Spoiler Alert
9 Sports Movies
* $25,000
* [Jumped]
What do y'all think?

Sounds reasonable. I could replace the asterisks with the numbers in the template file I use. I'd probably still include the unrandomized list, since I'd be building the randomized one off of that, anyway.

When you reshuffle the list, I assume you cut & paste into the new order? If so, this wouldn't cause any additional work, once the template is changed. Let's see if anyone else comments.

Thanks for all you and the other transcribers do for us!
