That last game was even worse than the score shows. I left 6 freaking open frames, all on easy spares. I completely fell apart after the great first game....

Talk about a free fall - that 1st good game saved your average though. I'll allow you one bad game every now and then,
but I'm not so sure about your teammates.

I built off bowling out of my head in 5 practice games Wednesday night for my high series of the season..... but the highlight of the night was the bitching by one lady on the other team about the way I bowl. She wasn't quiet enough and got it within earshot of my entire family, and finally me while I was waiting for the sweep between balls. But I was apparently "destroying the lanes" due to the fact that my ball travels a 4-5 feet in the air between the time I release it and it lands on the lane, splattering the oil pattern (Which I couldn't give a shit about since I do not throw a hook). In all my years of bowling, and I have always bowled like this, that was the first time I ever heard that little bit of whining. Even my aunt, who is a very good bowler, had to laugh that one off. What was even funnier was the snippet I overheard, where the bitch went from my oil "splattering" straight into "with the way he throws, it's only a matter of time before his arm snaps and he won't be bowling anymore".....

The team with the whiner, incidentally, won all but the first game. Boo hoo indeed......

With all that splattered oil, it's a miracle you didn't "let one slip" right at her during your backswing...

That's just stupid. Is she really unfamiliar with lofting? My brother threw a huge curve (which is what people call a hook, but that's different) and you've got to have loft to do that. I had to loft to go cross lane, since I had to throw a back up ball instead of my usual hook.

And if oil actually splattered, then they are making those things way too wet and she ought to be happy you're tracking it. When do they oil the lanes? Most places I bowled did it on Monday or Tuesday morning, so the lanes would be mega dry on Friday nights. And dry lanes make hookers happy!
If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit......

You're doing great! Third five in four weeks!

It's my understanding that lofting the ball is a problem only if it hits the soft wood out ahead of the first set of arrows. I don't have a bowling alley in front of me, but I'm pretty sure that four or five feet isn't a problem.

Well, I don't really know how far out the ball goes when I let it whip since I'm a mess of unorthodox mechanics..... I could be throwing it halfway down the lane for all I know. But there was some lady on the lanes next to us who was bowling like a softball pitcher, so it just struck me as funny. If my arm ever does fall off, though, I'm going to use it to beat her over the head with.....

Be careful what you wish for..... I predicted disaster, and it happened. I wish that first game was a typo, but it isn't. I was about 15 years old the last time I bowled a double digit score before last night.... and to make it doubly embarrassing, my team lost that game by just 12 pins (we were swept on the night)........ it can only get better next week......

I had seen a video of a guy rolling 900 this weekend. Guess it wasn't you... :P

Hey! Billy Wayne could roll a 900!
Spoiler
It would just take him 10 games.......

We won that second game (the only one we won all night) by 6 pins. It's the first time all year I bowled great and it actually mattered....

I am pretty principled in my belief that in competition you always try your best and never cheat yourself. Those principles got a big test last night, as I entered the last frame of my third game with a 155 in the 9th and a spare in the 10th, and our team already well ahead in both the game and for series. I could have just gone up there and plopped my last ball in the gutter and pulled off the rare triplicate series..... of which in my 15 years of league bowling I have seen done only once, and that was by Sister #3 (who got a 146 triplicate bowling on our family team in the min 90's). I really wanted it too from the moment the second game ended, but there was no way I could bring myself to throwing an intentional gutter ball. In fact, what I wound up rolling was probably my best strike of the entire night....

Sorry Sprots, I had to do my best.....

Apology not necessary!! Are you kidding?

We just have a different idea of doing your best. Our game was also not in doubt, and I asked my team captain (who also happened to be my brother) about going for it. I had to pick six pins off a rack to do it. I ended up with what turned out to be the highlight of my bowling career. This will not be the case with you.

Well done!
