Lyrically Speaking - 2/5/08

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Feb 05, 2008 7:06 am

It's Tuesday Wordplay, so each of today's songs has a word in common in their titles.... but you already knew that....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do, I'll be right behind you

2. Anybody here see the long-distance cheer for the notion
Well, I think we missed it
Anybody here see the sky weepin' tears for the ocean

3. But if you wanna leave take good care,
hope you have a lot of nice things to wear,
but then a lot of nice things turn bad out there

4. I drink myself of newfound pity
Sitting alone in New York City
And I don't know why, I don't know why

5. Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would have never missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door

6. If I could be king, even for a day
I'd take you as my queen, I'd have it no other way
And our love will rule, in this kingdom we have made
Till then I'd be a fool, wishin' for the day

7. Please lock me away
And don't allow the day
Here inside, where I hide with my loneliness

8. Don't know much about geography
Don't know much trigonometry
Don't know much about algebra
Don't know what a slide rule is for

9. Tell me princess, now when did you last let your heart decide?
I can open your eyes, take you wonder by wonder,
Over sideways and under, on a magic carpet ride

10. I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night

11. There's colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin' their feet
People sleepin' in their shoes

12. Johnny played guitar, Jenny played bass.
Name of the band is The Human Race.
Everybody tell me have you heard?

1. There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do, I'll be right behind you

Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Tears For Fears (And can you pick shorter song titles, fercryinoutloud!? :P )

2. Anybody here see the long-distance cheer for the notion
Well, I think we missed it
Anybody here see the sky weepin' tears for the ocean

Nope

3. But if you wanna leave take good care,
hope you have a lot of nice things to wear,
but then a lot of nice things turn bad out there

Oh Baby, It's a Wild World (hope it's not Wide instead of Wild...), Cat Stevens

4. I drink myself of newfound pity
Sitting alone in New York City
And I don't know why, I don't know why

Nopers

5. Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would have never missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door

Waiting on the World to Change, John Mayer or John Mayer Trio or whatever that snotrag calls himself this week...

6. If I could be king, even for a day
I'd take you as my queen, I'd have it no other way
And our love will rule, in this kingdom we have made
Till then I'd be a fool, wishin' for the day

Familiar

7. Please lock me away
And don't allow the day
Here inside, where I hide with my loneliness

I Won't Stay in a World Without Love, some fruitcakey-sounding guys

8. Don't know much about geography
Don't know much trigonometry
Don't know much about algebra
Don't know what a slide rule is for

What a Wonderful World (It Would Be?), I know James Taylor covered it.

9. Tell me princess, now when did you last let your heart decide?
I can open your eyes, take you wonder by wonder,
Over sideways and under, on a magic carpet ride

AAAGGHH!! You've been bugging my house again! Erin's going through her Jasmine phase, but I can stomach this movie better than the Mermaid one. A Whole New World, and I never stick around for the end credits. Lea Salonga sings Jasmine in the movie, but I will just go to the default of Regina Belle and Peabo Bryson because I can never get the duos...

10. I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night

What a Wonderful World, Louis Armstrong?

11. There's colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin' their feet
People sleepin' in their shoes

I can't place it, and I think I hate it.

12. Johnny played guitar, Jenny played bass.
Name of the band is The Human Race.
Everybody tell me have you heard?

AAAGGHHH!!! I can't pull this one, and it's catchy and I like it!!!!

So the word is WORLD, and you had to pick the longest titles so I'd get carpal tunnel syndrome before I could blather more... :P

The word of the day didn't help me much this week, I can't even think of that many world songs to just shove in there in hopes that I might get lucky.

1. There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do, I'll be right behind you

Everybody Wants To Rule the World - Tears for Fears

2. Anybody here see the long-distance cheer for the notion

Hand Me Down World - The Guess Who

3. But if you wanna leave take good care,

Wild World - Cat Stevens (I was gracious enough not to penalize those who said "Wide World", though the CharlesFoxSingers would not agree with that decision....)

4. I drink myself of newfound pity
Sitting alone in New York City
And I don't know why, I don't know why
The World I Know - Collective Soul

5. Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war

No more ribbons on their door
Waiting for the World To Change - John Mayer (Blech!)

6. If I could be king, even for a day

9. Tell me princess, now when did you last let your heart decide?
I can open your eyes, take you wonder by wonder,
Over sideways and under, on a magic carpet ride
A Whole New World - Peabo Bryson & Regina Belle (Feel free to throw darts, grenades, rotten eggs, but I decided that unless someone can convince me otherwise, just mentioning the movie Aladdin or any of the characters in Aladdin was not good enough for artist credit.)

10. I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

11. There's colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin' their feet

The whole world was in your hands in this game... well, maybe not given that the scores were overall only average...

Wait a sec...you accept a WRONG answer for a title ("Wide World"), but nix a RIGHT answer for this one? Aladdin (and Jasmine) DID sing "A Whole New World"...why wouldn't it be right? Just because it wasn't a hit on radio doesn't mean it shouldn't be acceptable, since it WAS on the soundtrack.

(FTR, I would NOT accept my own answer of just Aladdin/Ali, since I neglected to mention Jasmine, but I think you SHOULD accept an answer of Aladdin and Jasmine.)
There is something wrong in a government where they who do the most have the least. There is something wrong when honesty wears a rag, and rascality a robe; when the loving, the tender, eat a crust while the infamous sit at banquets.
