Scientific Study Shows Conservatives are Afraid

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Thu Dec 30, 2010 9:54 am

You can't argue with science. Apparently, an English study has shown that conservatives have larger amygdalas, the areas of the brain that are associated with anxiety and emotions and a smaller anterior cingulate, the area associated with courage and looking on the bright side of life (the article's words, not mine).

I fully expect the words "junk science" to be used in connection with this study.

Maybe you can't argue with science, but you can debate interpretation.

The article says that the 'conservative' brain has a bigger amygdalas area that relates to anxiety. Let's look at it another way: The liberal brain has a smaller area that relates to self examination and worry.

It also says that the the 'conservative' brain has a smaller anterior cingulate, which it says relates to courage and optimism. The liberal brain then, according to their analysis, tends to be less cautious and confident that everything is rosy.

So in my view, that means a liberal is a fun person to be friends with, but I would not put them in any position of responsibility. They have less anxiety, which means they would not give much worry to the unintended results of their actions, and they have less caution and would tend to believe that whatever they do, it will turn out alright.

I wonder if the study also found out liberals have smaller brains over all. Centuries of historical analysis have established that hypothesis.

Tell me again how they defined "conservative" and "liberal"? Or not.

I wear an 8 1/2 or 9.
