I honestly don't remember what I said for the ATA.

This is the hardest stack of questions I've ever seen.

Question 7 - International Finance
The massive financial firm Bank of America began in San Francisco in 1904 under what more international name?
A. Bank of China B. Bank of Mexico
C. Bank of Egypt D. Bank of Italy

[Obscure] Spoiler: Answer and value
D. Bank of Italy
E. Commercial National Bank

What is now Bank of America originated as Commercial National Bank in North Carolina. Following a series of mergers and acquisitions in North Carolina, it eventually became NCNB, which supposedly stood for 'North Carolina National Bank' but everyone knew it really meant 'No Cash for No Body.' In 1991 they acquired C&S/Sovran Corporation (itself formed one year earlier from the merger of Sovran Financial, based in Virginia, and Citizen's & Southern, based in Georgia) and took the name NationsBank (I was a First Vice President at C&S/Sovran at the time, and knew the new company as 'NastyBank.' When the 'merger' was announced, Hugh McColl, NCNB Chairman, announced that, unlike every other NCNB acquisition, there would be no layoffs. Six weeks later they laid off 4,000 people, including me, but they later said they were only kidding, and gave me a pretty big promotion and spent a ton of money moving me and my family to Richmond, all in the spirit of fun, I'm sure). In 1998, NationsBank acquired Bank of America; by that time, EVERYONE hated NationsBank, and so they took on the name 'Bank of America,' because BofA had a good name and good reputation.

Bottom line, what is now 'Bank of America' is really the current incarnation of Commercial National Bank of North Carolina, and is still headquartered in Charlotte, where Commercial National Bank was founded in 1874 (30 years before Giannini founded Bank of Italy in San Francisco.
Innocent, naive and whimsical. And somewhat footloose and fancy-free.

Yeah no doubt he'll be back for a llama episode...With a stack like that you'd think he was a regular on Pawn Stars or something...

I've seen plenty of other stacks this season that I found substantially harder. --Bob
