Excited...isn't the word!

#1 Post by fuzzywuzzy » Fri Feb 01, 2008 8:28 am

I know that I may be preaching to the choir but...

I am totally entralled by Miss Mae West.

This morning I caught her film, "I'm No Angel"

Mae not only was the lead actress with exceptional comedic timing & body language, but she wrote the movie and wrote the screenplay. For a woman to have that kind of talent and command in Hollywood back in the 1930's ...is a VERY big deal!

Funny thing, her birthday, is my brother's birthday!

fuzzy who always knew how great Mae was, but, did not actually know the depth of her true genius! :)

TLAF and THFD saw that very same Miss Mae West on Broadway on their honeymoon in Diamond Lil.

I have a Playbill.

(They also saw Sophie Tucker at Lou Walters' Latin Quarter (and brought home little souvenir drum sticks -- not fowl drumsticks but drum sticks that you hit a drum with).)

She also loved to write lines to get around the Hays Commission censors. The classic "Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?" is a great example.

A very underrated actress, IMO. I love watching the byplay between her and WC Fields in their films.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

saw her biopic years ago with Ann Jillian as Mae West, and she really put up with a lot from the censors.
