More of that damned global warming. Personally I wish it would hurry up because it has been too damned cold this winter.

Snow is not particularly uncommon on the Big Island. I have seen a couple of inches of snow on Mauna Kea on every trip I have made there in the winter. In fact I was lying on the beach in Hilo in January a few years ago soaking up the rays in 70+ weather one morning and could see the snow on top of Mauna Kea. Later that day we drove up there for the star show and watched the locals go "sledding". Or their version anyway. Mostly on pieces of cardbord or trash can lids.

Maui is a little less common but the inlaws say it has been relatively cool and rainy this winter so a bit more snow isn't too surprising although they note it fell at a little lower elevation than usual, though it didn't last long.

I can remember one of the coldest mornings I ever experienced was on top of Haleakala one January to see the sunrise. Near freezing and the wind was blowing up the western slope so hard that the wind chill had to be near zero. Froze the batteries in my camera it was so cold. Not to mention my face!

there's a woman to blame (always is...)
But I know it's La Nina's fault

Don't know about Saudi but if the temp hasn't been that low in 30 years that suggests to me that at least once 30 years ago the temp did drop at least that low. So apparently it is not unheard of.
