I love your new avatar.

I treated myself to a present from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum shop today. I saw this last year but couldn't justify spending the money. But my Crosswords check arrived way early, so I am treating myself.

It is a glass doololly with the "Imagine" lyrics inscribed, and a gold record at the bottom. I don't see it online, as it is a limited edition piece, but I will take a picture when it arrives, and post it.

I got misty over the holidays, when I heard his Christmas song with the kids, and I wondered how the world would be different if he had lived. I told someone at school today that is the most meaningful lyric ever written. It is hard to think how we would be if we didn't have to fight over stuff.

I LOVE the Rock Hall of Fame (though I do NOT love the selection commitee, as they are extremely biased against certain genres, particularly progressive rock). We went there in 2001. You saw how I was at the Baseball Hall of Fame. Imagine how I was seeing the Sgt. Pepper uniforms, the Sun Records studio set up, etc. I wanted to live there.

When we were there they had a special Lennon exibit on loan from Yoko. They had John's very first guitar, the bed that J & Y used during their "Bed-In" in Toronto, and a ton of other things. What had the most impact emotionally were John's blood-stained glasses from "that night". I felt like Mike Tyson had punched me in the gut when I saw that.

I think John would have made some nice pop music for us had he lived. "Double Fantasy" certainly showed him to be in a much better, more relaxed state of mind..it is comforting to think that he was a happy man when he died. It seemed that way, anyway.

I do think he would've been a part of things like "Live Aid" and such. It is also equally as likely that the current state of affairs in this world and this country would've brought out the activist in him once again.

How sad that we will never know

As an aside, I have Sirius Radio so I listen to more music. It turns out that two days in a row when I flipped to the Area33 channel, they had Yoko Ono's song "No No No." My kids think that is a hilariously awful song and want me to check on that station every time we get into the car to find out if it is on again.

I am not a Yoko fan but she did loan all that stuff for the exhibit in 2002. She is one other reason I hesitated to buy this gold record, is I didn't want her to make any money from it. I don't think she is evil but I don't like her, either.

As tonight's show was the Omaha auditions, the local affilaite had some interesting behind-the-scenes info.

Interestingly, the guy whom they said was the "last contestant" was nowhere near the last contestant. Rather, the young woman from California who appeared near the beginning (singing Norah Jones) actually was the last contestant.

The new AI "red carpet" correspondent for Fox 42 KPTM had an in-studio interview on the nightly news. To say that he was even more over-the-top flamboyant than he was on the show is an understatement. I think that his goal is to be the next Ross the Intern.

We were out to dinner when the show started. It was funny to watch other patrons watching the television screen. When one of the strange people would appear, everyone cringed while thinking about the impression being given to the rest of the nation of Omaha. [For the record, it seemed like all of them were from Council-tucky, Iowa.]

I don't think that she has done right by Julian Lennon. I have read that she auctioned many items from his childhood and barely gave him any money when John Lennon died.

This is the part I was thinking of. I can see him running around with Bono, raising money for bednets and condoms.

IUPUI coach Ron Hunter coached a basketball game barefoot last week to raise awareness for Samaritan's Feet, a group here in Charlotte who has pledged to make sure every kid has a pair of shoes. 10 million pairs in 10 years. They are cheaper per pair the more you send.

When the female country singer sang I asked Lady G "why does it seem that all these female country singer mix in yodeling when they sing??" And, then no sooner does she finish than Simon says the same thing. Great minds think alike.

I think we have had enough country singers but I also think they will be weeded out in the semi-finals. One or two will probably get through, though. How many more weeks of trials are there?

This young man is a Tulsa performer who has quite a following. He has experience with a wide variety of musical styles, both with bands and as a solo act. He joins 5 other Oklahomans who have made the Hollywood cut so far this season.

Look out, America -- the Sooners are coming!
