AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

#1 Post by earendel » Tue Jan 29, 2008 7:21 pm

If I were one prone to profane language I'd be cursing a blue streak like you wouldn't believe. The storm that I mentioned blew through just as I was answering the question about the color of the Libyan flag. It took down all the power in the neighborhood and, of course, the cable connection as well. Even if I had managed to get all of the previous questions right (doubtful) I would not have scored enough to pass the test. Plus the video capture I was making didn't get saved, either, so I can't even go back and see about the questions that I did see.

This is like a worst-possible-case scenario. Oh heck, it isn't like one, it is one.

Are you still allowed to take a "real" test in the next 12 months? Could you give them local weather footage?

Oh, man, I am so very sorry. You have been so diligent about this. I offer you my very sincere condolences for this exquisitely inopportune event.

If there was one scheduled in the area that would be good, but there's not one.

Ear,

Although I reiterate my very sincere sympathies about this, I seem to recall (and this is dredging up ancient board history) that your appearance on WWTBAM was somehow linked to a cell phone dead zone that precluded TR from getting his call, and you then got on - or something like that. So there is an odd karmic technology snafu symmetry. Whatever. I'm rambling. I hope you get an alternate opportunity to get on J! Cheers

I think it was determined that ear received his call prior to the time TR reportedly entered the dead zone his call was supposed to arrive in, although ear was 4/5 and TR 5/5... so fewer than 10 players got 5/5 in that game....

Just for the future, they let you take any time zone test, so if one night was not convenient, you can take it another night. But, once you take it, they don't let you retake it the same year.

I know, and the fact that I started the test means that I'm disqualified from taking it tonight or tomorrow night.

As you so succinctly put it yesterday, it's just a game show. I'll get over it. And at least my power came back quickly - there are still over 25,000 people in the metro area who are still in the dark.

Well, in checking the transcript from the J! board I find that I was 21 of 29 for the questions that I did answer and would have been 16 of 21 on the portion that I didn't get to finish, so I'd have been 37 for 50, which would have been a "passing" grade. So my derriere would have remained unkicked.

Well, my hat's off to you then. And to the handful of other BBs who might have made it throught that buzzsaw intact.

If I could fix my name retrieval hardware, I might have had a chance.
