Interesting character.

He's a pretty scary dude, if you ask me.

I find it interesting that we can all read the same information and take away different things. My overwhelming thought after reading Dawkins' bio was this:

"Wow. I didn't know Richard Adams wrote for Dr. Who!"

Very interesting and fun to read. I didn't finish it, my supercalifragilisticexpialidocious computer closed the site when I looked up the fifth or sixth word or person.

I used to just assume it was used like "la meme chose" but the context doesn't always fit. Sometimes it seems like it's used as "it's all about me me me me me me me", but not always. Lots of times, like your usage above, neither of those seem to make sense.
mrkelley found the right definition for the word. I recall seeing it in various articles and columns in Analog magazine; I don't think I was aware that Dawkins had invented the word.
fantine33 wrote:So what's the word? Besides Thunderbird (see, I know hip phrases that other people don't get. It's just that they don't get them because they're at least 40 years out of style. Ha!).
You can expect me to use nerdy phrases, not hip ones!

Interesting, though, to read your guesses to what the word meant. 8)

I'll agree with a third of that. Ha! It annoys me when people use 78 two buck words to say something that can be better conveyed by 12 ten cent words. Even more so here, as a dictionary's job is to clearly state the meaning of something so as to be easily understood.

After reading all I could stand, I think I kind of get what it means.

Thank you for the response, though.

It will probably happen when I'm away playing NTN tonight.

Well, I'm still waiting on the dishwasher repairman and can't leave the house until he shows up. Who knows when that will be?

We got a new mattress recently. We were given a window between 2:00 and 4:00 and they actually showed up at 1:55. I was amazed.

When I lost my cable internet last month, the company told me on Saturday that the first available repair slot was "Monday afternoon, between 1 and 5 p.m."

The guy showed up on Sunday afternoon. I wasn't home. He waited until I got there. I'm still amazed by that.

Those are encouraging reports, however, I wasn't even given a time frame. They are coming from Montgomery, about 45 miles away. They only come to Auburn on Tuesdays, so I was fortunate to get on the list yesterday.

I was probably the last one to schedule a repair, so I may be the last one they see, but they really weren't specific about that.

OK, he got here right at noon. Not so bad I suppose. No parts required, so just the $135 service call. It did have something to do with the the sink, but can't really blame the Roto-Rooter guy. The water that had backed up from the sink caused the overflow in the dishwasher to go into "flood mode" which automatically shuts it down so it won't flood your kitchen.

Unfortunately, you can't just get it out of flood mode. That requires a service call. I guess that's better than a flooded kitchen. I don't know. I'm just glad it's working again.
