Lyrically Speaking - 1/29/08

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Jan 29, 2008 7:19 am

It's Tuesday Wordplay, so you know what that means. Each of the following songs has one word in common in each of their titles. And as luck would have it, for the third consecutive Tuesday, fanny will be able to gripe about a certain omission from the Tuesday game.... :P

1 point for the title, one point for the artist....

1. One day I'm gonna write a poem in a letter
One day I'm gonna get that faculty together
Remember that everybody has to wait in line

2. You can knock me down, step on my face
Slander my name all over the place.
Do anything that you wanna do

3. Sun is shinin' in the sky
There ain't a cloud in sight
It's stopped rainin' ev'rybody's in a play
And don't you know
It's a beautiful new day hey,hey

4. My mother 'n father, my wife and my friends
You've seen them laugh in my face
But I've got the power and I've got the will
I'm not a charity case

5. He walked with a purpose
In his sneakers, down the street
He had many questions
Like children often do

6. Saving nickels, saving dimes
Working 'til the sun don't shine
Looking forward to happier times

7. Oh, I had a dream
for a moment I believed it was true
oh, I'd have given anything
just to be there with you

8. Out in the street it's 6 am
Another sleepless night
Three cups of coffee, but I can't clear my head
From what went down last night

9. I've sailed a thousand ships
But no matter where I go
You're the one for me baby
This I know 'cause it's

10. Joker on jack
Match on a fire
Cold on ice
A dead man's touch

11. I see a ship in the harbor
I can and shall obey
But if it wasn't for your misfortune
I'd be a heavenly person today

12. Look over yonder what do you see
The sun is a-risin' most definitely

Where's Blue Sunday? Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain? Blue Jean Blues? Goodbye Blue Sky? Blue Sky Mine? Blue Money? Behind Blue Eyes?

1. One day I'm gonna write a poem in a letter
One day I'm gonna get that faculty together
Remember that everybody has to wait in line
Blue Jean - David Bowie

2. You can knock me down, step on my face
Slander my name all over the place.
Do anything that you wanna do
Blue Suede Shoes - Elvis Presley or Carl Perkins (I found it interesting that there were almost more answers for Carl Perkins than there were for Elvis. This may just be another J.J. Cale/Eric Clapton situation for me, but I've always associated this song with Elvis and nobody else. I didn't even know there was another version [and yes, I realize now that Elvis' was actually the cover, but where am I ever going to hear Carl Perkins' version?])

3. Sun is shinin' in the sky
There ain't a cloud in sight
It's stopped rainin' ev'rybody's in a play
And don't you know
It's a beautiful new day hey,hey
Mr. Blue Sky - ELO

4. My mother 'n father, my wife and my friends
You've seen them laugh in my face
But I've got the power and I've got the will
I'm not a charity case
Blue Collar Man - Styx (I can't believe Wierd Al never turned this one into Blue Collar MAWG. Wonder why that guy quit writing Bored parodies...)

5. He walked with a purpose
In his sneakers, down the street
He had many questions
Like children often do
Counting Blue Cars - Dishwalla (The last time I put this song in one of my LS games, it was in my tribute to my least favorite songs of all time. I would still put it in such a game today....)

6. Saving nickels, saving dimes
Working 'til the sun don't shine
Looking forward to happier times
Blue Bayou - Linda Ronstadt or Roy Orbison

7. Oh, I had a dream
for a moment I believed it was true
oh, I'd have given anything
just to be there with you
Electric Blue - Icehouse

8. Out in the street it's 6 am
Another sleepless night
Three cups of coffee, but I can't clear my head
From what went down last night
Blue Morning, Blue Day - Foreigner (This one could have gone in today's game. I always thought they were saying "New Morning, New Day"...)

9. I've sailed a thousand ships
But no matter where I go
You're the one for me baby
This I know 'cause it's
True Blue - Madonna

10. Joker on jack
Match on a fire
Cold on ice

Blue On Black - Kenny Wayne Sheppard

11. I see a ship in the harbor
I can and shall obey
But if it wasn't for your misfortune
I'd be a heavenly person today
Blue Monday - New Order (Great video, but what is it about New Order and the titles they come up with for songs?)

12. Look over yonder what do you see
The sun is a-risin' most definitely
Crystal Blue Persuasion - Tommy James & the Shondells (I don't know if Joan Jett covered this one or not, TiV, but she definitely covered "Crimson & Clover", and I love her version of it....)

Don't be sad, the mystery word for today was Blue. And fanny need not worry, because none of the remaining Tuesday games uses the words "Brown" or "Make" or even "It"....

A bit of a strange game, as the scoring was rather low and it's almost impossible to tell the top players from the bottom players by looking at this list....

It's been rumored to be about the suicide of Joy Division's lead singer Ian Curtis, which I believe happened on a Sunday.
