Vibes would be good
So, Friday I decided to take the hub in to the doc because he just wasn't 'right' (as right as he gets). He's been in the ICU since Friday night. Sodium level = 182 (down from 196) and BP is hovering around 58/37. He gets dehydrated very easily, and usually a course of IV fluids puts him right within a day or two, but we seem to be having a harder time getting a handle on things this go 'round, so some extra vibes would be good. thankyewverramuch.

Salt free vibes headed your way.
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Many vibes coming his way!
Why is he so prone to having that happen?

Part of the damage from his head injury 5 1/2 years ago. Whatever regulates his water volume (hypothalmus?) doesn't. He also lost his thirst awareness, so it's extremely difficult to get him to drink at all. Those two things, compounded by a stomach bug last week, sent him spiraling this time. Argh!

Yes, he should. He refuses. He pours it out when we're not looking. He hold it is his mouth then spits it out. Plus, I work 12-14 hours of almost every day, which is problematic. He should drink a glass of water every two hours by the clock.
The docs FREAK everytime this happens. Normal sodium levels run 135-140. 155 is high and 170 is usually fatal. It's theorized that his body has done this so gradually that it simply adjusts, til it can't any more. Each time this has happened (I think this makes 6) I tell the docs to expect a sodium level in the 190's. They scoff, until the lab tests come back - usually saying 'this sample must have been contaminated - sodium is at 190-something, blah, blah, blah. I say, told you so. Then they go back to not listening to me.I don't know anything about sodium but that BP is troubling to me. You are both in my thoughts
I'm tired.

I had no idea what the sodium number meant, either. Those BP numbers were scary enough.
