Frequently heard on oldies radio in Canada. Not only because it is a great song, and this version may express the underlying feeling better that CSNY, but we all love the songwriter.

And it contributes to meetiong CAnCON requirements.

Ah yes. Ian Matthews was a member of Fairport Covention, and "Woodstock" was not his only Top 40 entry in the U.S.-he charted even higher (#13) as a solo act with a song called "Shake It" in the late 70's.

But CSNY had Canadian content, whereas Ian (now Iain) Matthews is British.

His Wikipedia entry has this strange comment in the first sentence under "Working Class Roots"
Matthews grew up in a working-class family in Scunthorp, regularly being buggered by his father.

I assume that is just Wikivandalism, but I don't know for sure.

Matthews lived in Austin for a few years. A friend of mine, Bradley Kopp, used to play guitar on tour with Matthews, and worked on some of his recording projects.
