top o' the mornin'®
elwing and I went to a "town hall meeting" last night with the police department and representatives of the Metro Council to discuss the recent spate of crimes our neighborhood has experienced. There were a lot of people there and most of them were frustrated and angry about what they considered a lack of information. One woman kept asking if the perpetrator was preying on single women - there have been several sexual assaults reported and she wanted to know if any of the victims had been married or had a man in the house. The police refused to answer, saying that they didn't want to divulge anything that might impede their investigation (though why this bit of information would do so is beyond me). They also gave the standard spiel about "situational awareness", locking doors, etc.
On a brighter note, my grandson is going to be dedicated this Sunday in church. Baptists don't believe in infant baptism or anything of the sort, but this is a rite as much for the parents as for the child. The ceremony involves promises on the part of the parents and the congregation to "receive the child as God's gift", to "tell him the stories of Jesus and sing him the songs of faith" and "help him so that in his own time and in his own way he may become a follower of Jesus."
Oh, and a team from our church will participate in an annual trivia fund-raiser tomorrow night. This will be our fourth year and we've won the competition three times and placed second the other time, so we're hoping for another strong finish.

Yep - good thing it's trivia, not math.Appa23 wrote:Wouldn't that make it your church's fifth year? (3 wins, 1 2nd, and this year's certain winearendel wrote:

Why is that a landmine? I think we all know that infant baptism was one of the defining issues that led to the founding of the Baptist denomination.earendel wrote:Yes, yes you did.Appa23 wrote:Ear, you may have noted that I sidestepped that whole "infant baptism" landmine.
Or are you just in the mood to argue about doctrine, Appa?

If I was in the mood to argue, I would have said something to provoke the argument. Much like Ear in a different thread, I held my tongue.MarleysGh0st wrote:Why is that a landmine? This is not the time or place to discuss a difference of opinion/interpretation.
