Anyone else watch Pioneers of Television last night?

#1 Post by gsabc » Thu Jan 24, 2008 3:10 pm

The episode was on game shows. Entertaining, but way too superficial, which has been the case with all the episodes. Too much material, not enough time.

Among the interviewees: Jack Narz, Tom Kennedy, Bob Barker, Bob Stewart, Betty White, Wink Martindale, Chuck Woolery, Hugh Downs, Vicki Lawrence, Phyllis Diller, Florence Henderson.

Narz, Kennedy, Woolery and Martindale praised Bill Cullen as the best in the business. But the discussion lasted maybe four minutes, tops. Cullen could be the subject of a show like this by himself.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

I thought the comments on the introduction of celebrities into game shows were interesting and the comment on the transition from it being all about the game "I don't care if you mother died last week" to "do you have an interesting story?".

And the quote by Eisner on Chuck Barris saving ABC was interesting.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I forgot about it!!

Enjoyed the other episodes, but, they are rather superficial.
