We loved Dominica. We were fortunate to be there during the Carnival season a couple of years ago, so after our river-tubing excursion, which I highly recommend, we got to watch the parade snaking through town--a rare opportunity on a cruise to experience something that has nothing at all to do with tourism.

By the way, even though the guidebooks all say it's pronounced DomiNIca, with the accent on the third syllable, I heard DOMinica at least as often. It kind of depended on the context--"WELcome to DOMinica" has a better rhythm. Just don't put the accent on the second syllable.
