RIP Slim Whitman (or not)

#1 Post by TheConfessor » Mon Jan 21, 2008 6:47 pm

I just heard that Slim Whitman died today. There's nothing on the internet yet, but his Wikipedia entry has been updated.

They're dropping like flies lately.

Update: This is apparently false. See my post below.

Awwww...I saw his name in the "Today's Birthdays" column just yesterday! Till then I hadn't thought of him in years. He died the day after his 84th birthday.

My former mother-in-law had his record (8-track? 2 cassettes?) from the commercial back in the 1970s.

Yeah, so do the guards at Guantanamo. Something Amnesty International has been fighting to get rid of for some time.

Usually people died in multiples of three, I think that they are dying in multiples of ten lately.

I can't find any mention of this anywhere on the internet other than his Wikipedia entry, which, as you know, can be wrong.

Google didn't find anything, but Technorati found this page:
http://leftinaboite.blogspot.com/2008/0 ... at-84.html

I assume it's true, but it seems unofficial until confirmed elsewhere.

My original source has sent a retraction:
January 21, 2008
Slim Whitman didn't Die Yesterday? Death Sites are Reporting it! I'll Remember You - Happy 84th Birthday!

Update: We have a report in the comment sections that Slim Whitman is Alive and Well! Stay Well Slim!

Update: Wikipedia has removed all references to Slim Whitman's Death yesterday. Interesting how this type of news gets picked up by web sites without true verification.

Though I haven't been able to find confirmation- it is being reported by many "death" sites, that Country Artist Slim Whitman had died today. Whitman would be known by younger fans due to his infomercial about 10-15 Years ago. Here is I'll Remember You from Slim Whitman Live- as introduced by the Late Andy Kaufmann. This could be a hoax, as if he did die, it would be all over Country Music Web Sites. And it isn't What I do know it that Jan 20 was Whitman's Birthday. It should boost recognition of Whitman though!!

Slim is fine we were in contact with him yesterday. He said he feels like he's forty and has lost weight.
