A kinder gentler IRS Deparment

From my inbox.

Internal Revenue Service
United States Department of the Treasury

After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have
determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of $390.23.
Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 3-9 days in order to
process it.

A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons.
For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.

To access your tax refund, please click here

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I got one of these a couple of weeks ago. Snaxx gave me a link to report it as spam.

I guess there are those out there that believe this stuff.

1. The IRS doesn't have my email address
2. The IRS can spell department
3. Its the Department of Treasury not "the Treasury"
4. If it was a refund it would be addressed to both taxpayers.
5. The IRS knows my name this guy doesn't

Large bureaucracies can make mistakes. I still have my Burlington Northern Santa Fe calendar with April 31.

However, I think your e-mail is a scam...

I hope these guys don't audit me for not reporting all those monies I got from unsuspecting old people as income!

But I sure do want to claim that refund!
