Will they ever, ever, ever have a likable contestant on the show?
Yet another stupid, greedy, obnoxious person goes down in flames, much to my enjoyment. Here's a guy who doesn't know in which hemisphere the Caribbean Sea is and he's gambling $250,000 and making a complete horse's rear end out of himself to do so.
For what it's worth, I probably would have gone down in flames with him on that one.
The question: What was the last state to ratify the 13th Amendment banning slavery in 1995? Mississippi, Missouri or Kentucky. He used the Ask the Mob to eliminate Missouri (which I would have done also), and then guessed Kentucky. Wrong.
My thought was that Mississippi was too obvious a distractor for this question. If the answer really was Mississippi, I would have thought the show would have used distractors like Alabama and South Carolina, rather than border states.
He was down to the last 15 people and went for it, rather than take the $250,000.

Wow. That's a tough one.
Kentucky was the next to last state to ratify the 13th Amendment. They didn't do it until 1976.
Delaware was the only other state to ratify in the 20th century. They ratified in 1901.
No matter where you go, there you are.

I went wrong as well. I thought that one of the conditions for the Confederate states to be re-admitted to all rights and privileges in the Union (such as seats in Congress) was that they had to ratify the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments. So I went with Kentucky (a slave state that didn't secede) with confidence.

Once it became a choice of
Mississippi vs. one other (Kentucky), I would have felt reasonably confident in choosing the correct one, because it correponded IIRC with the demographic change in that state at that time.
I have to find a game show where I can be obnoxious by being a non-American who knows American history, tolerably well.

I would never have missed this question.
All they would have seen of me is taillights leaving the parking lot with my 250K...

Certainly, Mississippi seems like the right answer given those choices (which is why 10 out of the 15 mobsters got it right), and Mississippi was my gut feeling, but I would have thought that they would have used better distractors if Mississippi had been the right answer. Which shows why trying to outthink the people who write the questions is not a good idea.
And of course, this guy, who was very, very, very, very lucky to get to this level, Grannie's bowling towel or not, should never have gone for it. I am glad a few people in the mob got some decent money for a change.

FWIW I got this one right, simply because I live in Kentucky and knew it hadn't happened in 2007 (it would have been very big news).
