Too bad, nice Lithuanian boy goes down in flames.

I don't know how they pronounced it on the show, but the name 'Jonaitis' would properly be 'Yow - NIGH - tiss' and you have actually heard of someone with the same name: the greatest quarterback in the history of the NFL, Johnny Unitas, was also Lithuanian; the spelling was changed from the Lithuanian form to the American form when they came over.
Innocent, naive and whimsical. And somewhat footloose and fancy-free.

I'm sorry, but I think you made both a spelling and a factual error. The NFL's greatest quarterback's last name is spelled "Namath," and I'm pretty sure he wasn't of Lithuanian origin. --Bob

Nate pronounced it for Meredith as Joe-NIGH-tiss.

Blame the Americanization of the "J" sound.

I'm pretty sure Namath is the worst quarterback in the Hall of Fame. To be honest, I have never seen him play because he was before my time so my opinion is only based on statistics. The most action I have seen from Joe was him trying to get a kiss. And that pass was totally deflected.

I thought the greatest quarterback in NFL history was Terry Bradshaw.

Local news story about Nate's appearance
http://www.themorningsun.com/articles/2 ... 950066.txt

I just had penne for dinner tonight before reading this...
Guess I don't have to watch later tonight, then.

In recent weeks, I am getting the impression, stronger with each passing episode, that Meredith Viera couldn't give away a million dollars if she walked into Trafalgar Square in London covered in dollar bills and piegon food.

The recent Tournament of Ten that gave away the top prize pretty much by default (the winner only answered 12 questions correctly instead of 15) demonstrates how desperate WWtBaM is to give away some big cash (Season 1 of SydnieBAM was the last 'legitimate' win).

Nowadays I just read the transcripts at this site, because in my time zone Meredith's up against Jon Stewart, who's actually legitamitely funny and not a hopeless game show host we keep having to feel sorry for. (Sorry, Meredith.)

Wake me when someone wins six digits again. :?

Here's an article about Nate's appearance. Despite the outcome, he went ahead and had two viewing parties, which he used as fundraisers for the Special Olympics.

http://www.themorningsun.com/articles/2 ... 950066.txt

And notice the shirt he wore for this!
Spoiler
Image
Going behind the bar and grabbing a microphone, Jonaitis paused to take off his sweatshirt, revealing a black “I’m With Stupid” T-shirt, featuring an arrow pointing up.
Bravo for your sense of humor, Nate!

(Of course, Brit Canuck scooped me by several hours on this story...but he didn't quote any of the funny bits!)

Nate looks like a beefier version of Ben Affleck's stoner bartender character in Extract.

Wow, what a great guy and a great way to deal with the situation - way to go Nate.

Anyone who want's to call Nate pathetic - feel free to go to his bar and tell him in person. Don't forget to post a trip report!

In my opinion, TV game shows are supposed to be fun and memorable for everyone playing.
Even the losing contestants should always get parting gifts.
'Millionaire' doesn't do that, and watching so many recent contestants leaving with nothing at all is not fun, especially in today's fragile economy.
