I guess she couldn't associate "soy" with teriyaki sauce. I was able to. I bet a New York audience would have known the musical question. I've only seen one of the four-"Annie" (a very long time ago) but remembered that FDR is a character in it. Once again, the Expert proved to be unhelpful to the contestant.

Nihil obstat* for me.
I'm just a game show nerd.

As soon as she said she'd performed in musicals, I guessed that "But not in these!" was coming.

So, she never gave a definite answer, but she ruled out the right one definitely. What do we call that, a Negative Dursting?

Hoover and FDR would be different generations?

Yeah, that Hoover-FDR different generation comment made me cringe. That's the kind of logic I see on 5th Grader.

Watching Melodie from the stands as I was, I saw that musicals topic and truly wished I'd had that stack. I would have had to use the ATA at $7500, though. The mind focused more on "Fox News" than on the names of the people involved, and I could make the connection between Huckabee and the election.

They left out a lot from her banter. I think I've mentioned that she said she had not told her children she was taping the show. When she had auditioned, she got home, told the family she'd passed the test and gotten the interview, and her kids immediately started picking out stuff they wanted to buy with Mom's winnings. So that day, she got the kids out the door and off to school, and took off for the studio. I keep wondering if she told them about the taping before Christmas. Imagine the greed going on for the potential Christmas gifts!
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Holy cow! They left that story out!?

Of course, it's your fault, Gordon, because they had to squeeze that $25K question of yours into the episode! :)

I've seen the movie Annie so many times, I can't believe the "expert" and the contestant
both missed this! My kids loved that movie and we just about wore it out when they were
little. It's a major part of the movie. I haven't seen it as a play but surely the part is in that as well.
Maybe I'm just showing my age.

It also spawns my favorite line of the movie, where Daddy Warbucks invites FDR for dinner and he unexpectedly accepts. Warbucks's comment: "I wonder what Democrats eat ..."

Ozone Park is within the city limits of New York, so WE/WE®. At least she's a teacher.

I watch GMA Weekend, and I thought Kate would be a helpful expert. I was wrong, as I was about Ali Wentworth.

The NYC audience recognized "oy vey" as a Jewish expression, so they focused on the "soy" and correctly answered teriyaki sauce. I wonder what non-kosher brands of teriyaki sauce are made of.

Interesting that on Jeopardy tonight, one of the categories was something like "inauguration Trivia" and the question was to identify the two presidents seen in the photo on the way to an inauguratioh in a car together (it was Hoover and FDR).
