Bad news

#1 Post by geoffil » Thu Jan 10, 2008 4:31 pm

My husband's mother passed away last night. She had kidney failure and refused dialysis. She made her choice and her doctors respected it. My husband has lost his mom and sister in just 5 years.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

My condolences. My mother lost her sister and mother within a few months, and then my father within the next year. She spent a solid 2 years taking care of dying family.

Her other sister died just this past year, after being in long-term care for severla years after a series of strokes and seizures.
