-- Commercial Break --

Stephanie works as an event coordinator for the Houston Texans pro football team, so if she had gotten the last question wrong, it would have been merciless, especially when they had an HR meeting about that, two weeks ago.

Stephanie's boss made her pinkie swear that she would not quit her job if she won the $1 million.

Today's celebrity is Al Roker.
Because it requires certain weather conditions, harvesting maple sap to make syrup typically takes place during what seasonal change?

A: Spring into summer B: Summer into fall
C: Fall into winter D: Winter into spring

With 17 seconds left, Stephanie decides to Ask The Expert. Today's expert is TV and radio personality Kennedy.

Kennedy: Hmmmmm.

Stephanie: Hmmmmm.

Kennedy: You probably don't want maple syrup to be too hard. I think it's not fall into winter. And you don't want it to be spoiled, and it seems like it could get too hot in summer. So it seems like spring into summer would be a nice time for maple syrup.

Stephanie: Spring into summer?

Kennedy: Yeah, the leaves are still alive and beautiful.

Stephanie: Okay, is this going on a complete guess or--I mean, how--is this logical thinking? Are you just trying to--tell me your thought process.

Kennedy: I love maple syrup. I've never harvested maple syrup. I know nothing about harvesting maple syrup, but it sounds delicious!

Stephanie: It does sound delicious. So you're thinking spring into summer?

Kennedy: I'm thinking spring into summer. Or summer into fall.

Stephanie. Oh, lord! Ummm, okay. Thanks, Kennedy!

Stephanie is from the south and has no idea. With 15 seconds left, she decides to Double Dip.

Stephanie's first answer is
Spoiler
B: Summer into fall
.
Stephanie's second answer is her initial thought,
Spoiler
C: Fall into winter
.
Answer
D: Winter into spring ( 8 )
We get to see Al Roker on video again, saying that the answer is incorrect, but telling
Stephanie "don't feel too bad, syrup trivia is very difficult." Stephanie falls to $5,000.

OK with this stack.

When I was in fourth grade, we took a field trip to our nature center to learn about the process of turning maple sap into syrup. It was in mid-to late March, as I recall. I was screaming "D" at my TV.

Whose idea was it to get these celebrity experts? I'd much rather see KJ or a past big winner on BAM (John Carpenter, Ogi, 15QAway, Nancy Christy or even Sam who won the ToT) than a celebrity that is more interested in being on TV than actually helping the contestant.
I'm just a game show nerd.

A Stephanie involved with the Houston Texans. Hmmm... sounds familiar.

Disaster for me. I would've Double Dipped on B and C because I was sure that fall was involved in harvesting sap. But then again, I've never been to New England, so it shows what I know about maple syrup.

This seems like an easy question for those from that part of the country but a tough one for those that aren't. Intutitvely, I would have associated it with the falling leaves (in the 30 seconds you have to think about the question).

I agree that it is kind of a regional question. When I saw the question a visual of pictures I have seen are of kids in winter coats around a maple tree, so I would have double dipped on both winter answers and would have got lucky since I really did not know.

Do little girls not read Little House in the Big Woods anymore? I think that was one of the first books I read by myself, and I can remember so many parts of it. The hog butchering in the fall, and the Maple Sugar party in the late winter, when the sap rises. The kettles of boiling sap, forming into sugar and being poured on snow to make candy.

I think that BAM has deliberately searched out total morons for their "Experts" to ensure no high dollar winners.

Was this the first incorrectly answered celebrity question? Al Roker had a humorous response that got lost on Meredith as she seemed focused on consoling the contestant. Al said something about not only going home with $5000 but also having the opportunity of meeting the fabulous Meredith Viera. As Meredith is saying what a good friend Al Roker is, if you watch and listen closely you can hear him finish the remark by saying, "Meredith gave me ten bucks to say that."

Much as it pains me to defend TPTB, this is an exaggeration. Someone on the staff is very proud of getting all these minor cable celebrities on the show. As others have commented, TPTB just don't care if the experts actually help the contestants.

As noted on her Wikipedia and IMDB pages, Kennedy a number of game shows on her resumé. Alas, being a host is not quite the same job as being a contestant or an "expert".

Yes, I believe it was the first time we heard the incorrect response from a celebrity.

I stopped trying to do a full transcription of his response when he started brown-nosing Meredith. I might have included it all, if I had noticed that final line. :P

7.5K: Knew it wasn't Simon Baker (The Mentalist, which I watch) or Neil Patrick Haris (How I Met Your Mother, which I don't). So I could double dip, but figure the audience will know this. ATA

10K: OK, I knew this 'cause I knew it (& I knew it growing up in the midwest, where we have maples but not significantly sugar maples; there are lots of kids' books about kids who make maple syrup), but this was so so sad to watch.
