As most people only know Salinger for writing "Catcher in the Rye", and with that wicked "Hayden" distractor there, I'd have to say that this question was severely undervalued.

I completely understand your frustration. I have no doubt that we all agree that some hot-seaters do not seem to be particularly well qualified. When I'm worked up, I would go further and say that some hot-seaters show no evidence of ever having read a book that was not a school assignment, nor even so much as a newspaper. At the same time, I have seen contestants that I know to be bright and well-educated who, for whatever reason, have been tripped up by one darn thing or another in the first half of the stack.

That's probably why we keep watching.
