Mere: I hope your geography is good Paula Poundstone b/c this is worth $10,000 to Mikey. I'm gonna feed you the question now...
Paula: You know what? You're lucky I'm available I just ran through the house marking the Line of Death on all my globes (laughter). You might want to GPS that as well, what I'm thinking. My geography is not good but I'll try.
Mere: You're stuck with this question we're gonna feed it to you now.
Paula: I was so hoping it would be "where are you?" (laughter, long pause). I can't tell you how lost I got coming to my room this afternoon (laughter). I really, I don't know. I don't think it's in the Pacific because I think would have bumped into it while driving to Santa Barbara last night. Um, I don't_ think it's, I don't know. If I were gonna take a wild guess, cause I wanna give you the width and breadth of my expertise I would say that it's, um, not one of the Great Lakes, and it is, uh, that Caribbean Sea. Guess.
Mere: I think she was telling you, she doesn't know.
Mikey: I got the message.

Mikey said that there was an advertising sign for the show on the bus stop (but didn't specify whether the stop was at home or in NYC).

I thought verdigris was just "copper rust" - that is, it is the normal "aging" of the metal.

Again I would have thought better of Paula. From her stints on "Wait, Wait..." I thought she was fairly knowledgeable.
BBTranscriptTeam wrote:They also cut to Paula woo-hooing that the contestant got it[/spoiler]
Was I imagining it or was Paula wearing a shirt with the letters MAWG on it? I couldn't tell whether it was part of a larger word (she was wearing a sweater over it), and the third letter might have been a U or a V.

Very interesting reasoning on this - during the commercial break Mikey said that it wasn't a total guess - she figured that if a "chick" had hit a "dude" that she, even though she hadn't been born yet, would have heard about it.

What a shame. After showing guts in going for the Woodstock question I was hoping she'd get this one also.

Nihil obstat® for me.

As someone from MA and also old enough to remember JFK, I figured this out because it has been burned into my brain that PT 109 was a patrol boat. I did not know it cold, though. IMO the question is a little undervalued for the younger set, i.e., anyone less than 40.

Too bad. Another teacher leaves too early.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

I'm old enough to remember the PT boats on the TV show McHale's Navy.

12.5K: I had never heard of this. I was alive at the time (though not at present at the concert), I saw the movie, I've read stuff about it in the intervening years. Never heard/read of this.

It sounds like the kind of thing Baez would do, but I'd have read/heard of it. I don't think Joplin cared about being the stage police, or was compos mentos enough much of the time to carry it out. I would however ATA rather than double dip, just in case the audience had heard of this.

15K: I should have remembered PT boats as in "PT109", because I knew Kennedy was not on a platoon transport but a small boat. I don't think I would have remembered. At home, I was going "duh". Well, at least I knew it wasn't A or D. Double dip, & kick myself when I remembered Kennedy's story.
